Finish attributing the recovered gossip-flood timeout after green close-outcome checks
Written: 2026-10-22 15:20 UTC.
RE-VERIFY: current product https://github.com/CodexCoder21Organization/UrlProtocol/pull/826, its head/checks through gh GraphQL, and every branch through git ls-remote. No merge, enqueue, publication, deployment, test timeout increase, workload reduction, weakened assertion or existing-test edit.
Design decisions in force
S104's added rule (2026-10-22): a close failure is reported exactly once total. A close error already attached to a reported listener failure is consumed and cannot resurface at teardown. Otherwise the first explicit teardown claims it before supplied code, including Clock cancellation; reentrant teardown cannot take that claim. Retirement still closes the exact generation and settles pending calls/grants once; replacement is preserved; the record is bounded. Every failed first attempt must be accounted for; do not call a failure unrelated without showing it on main.
Current mission and verified result
The two requested delivery findings are fixed and independently proven at product head 57a99ab34bc7dc1ce82762fd2b328d2f75044da3. The target is OPEN/unmerged. Both required checks passed and the plain watcher exited GREEN without enqueue. Exact-source focused validation is 77/77 first passes, zero failures/retries; all seven delivery scenarios pass 10/10 and seven previous lifecycle regressions also pass first attempt. Seven final-form baseline cases fail 3/3 against exact b5a27164 source. Both existing cleanup tests and all previous test budgets/workloads/assertions are unchanged.
Required full suite https://github.com/CodexCoder21Organization/UrlProtocol/actions/runs/39788628314 has 3146/3146 final passes, 3145/3146 first passes, 3147 attempts, one failed attempt. All 14 delivery/prior lifecycle regressions pass first attempt. The one recovered failure is unchanged main-added testRelayedUrlCallsProgressDuringManyPeerGossipFlood: 60000ms timeout at line 140 waiting for stream.closeFuture().get, native attempt time 62415ms; second attempt passes in 23982ms. Do NOT label this unrelated yet. Its mechanism is not established. No guessed fix or new timeout was introduced.
Attribution evidence: actual-main push run 39782188204 failed setup and has no XML, so it cannot establish this behavioral failure on main. Adding-PR run 39750602624 passes 3128/3128 first attempts, with this test at 33459ms; its production source and the failed test file match main c1f99d15 byte for byte, but that pass does not classify the failure. SLOW817's existing records report that same clean measurement, not a failure. The existing necessary comparison https://github.com/CodexCoder21Organization/UrlProtocol/actions/runs/39802456486 runs the exact unchanged test on main snapshot c1f99d15 at most five times, stopping on any failed native attempt, including a recovered retry. Its source equality step passed. It has finished: five native first passes, five attempts, zero failures. This does not establish the failure on main; attribution remains incomplete. The draft is CLOSED/unmerged. All logs/native XML/audits are preserved in records. The lane's two-hour time box ends 15:22 UTC; all completed work/evidence is pushed.

All failed-first stacks are retained. No code was merged, queued, published or deployed.
Next steps
- Main-attribution run 39802456486 is complete and audited: five first passes, zero failures. No more existing run is pending. Investigate the remaining recovered timeout with a reliable public-API reproducer; five main passes do not refute a rare flake or establish a root cause. Do not guess or loosen the test.
- If attribution is not established, investigate the named test's real stream-close progress with a reliable public-API reproducer. The timeout is a symptom; do not blame host load or raise its budget. The target source fix and both required green checks are already complete; the remaining item is first-failure attribution.
- All three evidence drafts are CLOSED/unmerged and the target description records actual counts and the unclassified failure. Finish this scoped handoff only when that evidence requirement is resolved; current lane is stopping and releasing its claim. Required product checks remain green.
- Stop owned watchers and remove only the lane checkout and exact cache once all work is pushed. No new full-suite or general validation batch. No merge/queue/publish/deploy.
Runtime observations
The required racing command used kompile-cli 0.0.124 and completed locally after the shared service's health response remained STARTING. This is a recorded remote warning, not a failed test attempt. GitHub Actions job logs were available through the direct job-log API while old gh run view briefly still reported the workflow in progress after check success. Native XML attempt-history is root-level; audit_native.py validates unique names, contiguous numbers and final agreement. Handoff writes succeeded except the bounded 14:23 report upload; 14:43 and 15:03 reports succeeded.

Finish verification of single-report relay close outcomes
Written: 2026-10-22 13:54 UTC.
RE-VERIFY: This is a write-time snapshot. Read https://github.com/CodexCoder21Organization/UrlProtocol/pull/826 through gh GraphQL for the head, state and required checks; verify branch heads with git ls-remote. Use native XML for first-attempt counts. Do not merge, enqueue, publish or deploy.
Design decisions in force
S104 brief (2026-10-22), completing the earlier requirements:
a close failure is reported exactly once in total — if it has already been delivered (e.g. attached as cleanup detail to a reported listener failure), it is consumed and never re-surfaced at teardown; otherwise the first explicit teardown surfaces it. A teardown claims the recorded outcome atomically before calling any supplied code (Clock cancel, callbacks), so reentrant teardown can't steal it. Keep: retirement closes the generation and settles outstanding calls (grants returned once); replacement never closed by old retirement; record bounded.
The two existing listener cleanup-detail tests must not be edited. No timeout increase, reduced workload, assertion weakening, merge, enqueue, publication or deployment. The required gates are bld-build and bld-all-tests; kotlin.build App checks remain informational. Use GitHub-runner verification under the current common.md override. Lane s104 time box ends around 15:22 UTC.
Mission summary
Finish runner verification and native attempt audit for the single-report correction at 57a99ab34bc7dc1ce82762fd2b328d2f75044da3 on the OPEN target PR. Required build passed and repeated exact-source validation is complete: 77/77 first-attempt passes, no failed attempts or retries. Only the existing required full suite remains running. Stop when both required checks and native first-attempt audit finish; do not merge or enqueue. The previous b5a27164 validation was not green: S101 proved two existing tests fail deterministically and supplied-cancel reentry takes the first unregister's error.
What was found and done
S101's reviewed b5a27164 source retained a transport-close error after it had already been attached to a reported listener failure; later teardown reported it again. Unregister also invoked injected Clock cancellation under taskLock before reserving its close claim, so synchronous nested close took the first caller's error. S104 independently reran the exact unchanged S101 probe and both existing cleanup tests against byte-identical b5a27164 source: each failed 3/3 attempts in https://github.com/CodexCoder21Organization/UrlProtocol/actions/runs/39786631715.
The fix records listener transport outcomes without throwing them into cleanup immediately, then chooses one reporter before listener/refresh publication. A reported listener cleanup error consumes the record; an earlier explicit claim wins and excludes that close detail from the listener. Without a public listener report the outcome remains for explicit teardown. Unregister captures the record and detaches its reconnect task under the lifecycle transaction, then invokes supplied cancel outside both guards. A thrown cancellation still completes close cleanup and retains the exact close error as cleanup detail. Physical close CAS, generation comparisons and fetch-grant settlement are unchanged; the service still holds one selected record and clears it by identity after reporting or on replacement.
Five new tests (the exact S101 probe plus four neighboring scenarios) cover cancellation reentry, refresh-callback reentry, explicit-first versus fatal listener reporting, cancellation throwing, and ordinary listener errors reported through refresh futures. All seven final-form original/new delivery cases fail 3/3 on the baseline in https://github.com/CodexCoder21Organization/UrlProtocol/actions/runs/39787902725: 7 scenarios, 0 first/final passes, 21 failed attempts. The explicit-first/fatal-listener case also forces the old taskLock problem: its cancellation callback joins a failed listener that needs the held taskLock, so the unchanged join tripwire observes a live listener and becomes the cancellation error. This is attributed to the supplied-code-under-lock ordering, not called unrelated. No existing test edited or budget/assertion weakened.
Dedicated separate self-review passes covered test completeness and implementation behavior. No subagents were used under the lane rules. S95's seven previous lifecycle regressions remain unchanged. The new exact-source validation repeats all seven delivery cases ten times and runs those seven prior regressions once, preserving per-run native XML and a nonzero aggregate exit on any failure. Its source equality step passed.

Findings, baseline native XML/audits, full logs/stacks and product diff pushed |
Required product build: https://github.com/CodexCoder21Organization/UrlProtocol/actions/runs/39788628332 (SUCCESS).
Required full suite: https://github.com/CodexCoder21Organization/UrlProtocol/actions/runs/39788628314 (IN_PROGRESS).
Exact-source targeted validation: https://github.com/CodexCoder21Organization/UrlProtocol/actions/runs/39788885417 (SUCCESS; 77/77 first attempts, zero failures/retries).
No code has been merged, enqueued, published or deployed. Command history includes source/records/evidence pushes, disposable draft PRs, owned evidence-job cancellations, and reports only. All current work is pushed; there is no local-only product work.
Next steps
- Continue the tracked plain build-watchman for the target required checks. Informational App zero-dispatch warnings are not gates and must not be rerequested. Build is already green.
- Exact-source targeted validation is DONE: actual runner merge d193c50d2d84543fd92471e61eab8c308af33b15 independently matches product src/tests/scripts/build/README/config, and all eleven native XML files total 77/77 first passes with no failed attempts. Finish only the existing required suite; download its native artifact and audit every first/final/total attempt. Attribute every failed first attempt, show unrelated real failures on main before calling them unrelated, and preserve full stacks. Do not repeat or broaden once the bar is met.
- Evidence validation draft is already CLOSED without merge. Update PR validation with actual counts/links, push final records. Complete this scoped handoff when verification is truly done; if the time box arrives first, update exact pending state and release claim.
- Stop only lane-owned watchers, verify processes, delete the lane checkout and its exact path-derived cache. Final response must include head SHA, failure-delivery table, red/green links and check status. Do not merge, enqueue, publish or deploy.
Reusable / operational knowledge
Native XML stores test finals in root-level test nodes and repeated attempts in root-level attempt-history. No history plus success is one clean first attempt; audit_native.py is in records. First/final totals must be reported independently. Evidence source merge SHAs are checked against exact product source.
The first automatic baseline full suite (https://github.com/CodexCoder21Organization/UrlProtocol/actions/runs/39786631542) failed before any test in apt update with Ubuntu jammy-updates Hash Sum mismatch, exit 100, and no XML. This is zero behavioral attempts, not a product test failure. Full log is retained. Product workflows are unchanged; targeted evidence also had successful apt setup on its measured runs. report-challenge auto-merges, which the brief forbids, so no such CLI was invoked; this record preserves the issue and suggests avoiding mutable apt bootstrap where image curl already suffices.
No local kompile builds/tests were run on the shared box; verification ran on independent GitHub runners under the explicit override. No session scheduler tool exists, so reports use an in-turn 20-minute cadence. The scoped handoff service now reads successfully.
Historical S95 snapshot (superseded by the S104 state above)
The following historical text retains prior branch/evidence links. Its old b5 head/check/time-box claims are not current:
Finish required full-suite audit for registration retirement close outcomes
Written: 2026-10-22 12:06 UTC.
RE-VERIFY: read current PR heads/states/checks with gh GraphQL and verify branches with git ls-remote. This is an in-flight snapshot. Use native XML for first-attempt counts. Do not merge or enqueue.
Design decisions in force
Lane brief, 2026-10-22, for https://github.com/CodexCoder21Organization/UrlProtocol/pull/826:
(a) retiring a listener generation (any reason) closes that generation's stream and settles its outstanding calls so each shared fetch grant returns exactly once; a replacement is never closed by the old one's retirement; (b) a close failure from retirement is recorded where every later explicit teardown of that relay registration reads it (the RelayService/registration-level state for that relay, not the detached connection), and is surfaced exactly once by whichever explicit teardown comes first (unregisterFromRelay() or close()), regardless of whether retirement finished before or after teardown began; never duplicated, never swallowed, never surfaced to a different registration; the record is bounded (no unbounded accumulation when nobody tears down — e.g. keep only the first failure per registration and attach later ones as suppressed, and clear it when surfaced or when the registration is replaced cleanly — state your choice).
No timeout increase, reduced load, weakened assertion, or existing-test edit. Do not merge, enqueue, publish or deploy. Only bld-build and bld-all-tests are required gates; informational kotlin.build App checks do not gate and must not be re-requested. Use GitHub runner verification because the shared local box is not a reliable kompile execution host. Lane time box ends around 12:45 UTC.
Mission summary
Finish verification and closeout of lane s95's fix for https://github.com/CodexCoder21Organization/UrlProtocol/pull/826. Final implementation and seven regressions are pushed at b5a27164d9e2ba76eecc34affe467a1fe0160ae3. Exact-source targeted verification is complete (81/81 first-attempt passes, zero failed attempts) and required build is green. Only the existing required full suite, its native audit and closeout remain. The lane stops before merge/publication. Time box ends around 12:45 UTC; preserve exact pending gates if they have not finished then.
What was found and done
The active relayConnection pointer was cleared before listener retirement recorded its close result. A retirement completed before teardown therefore left its error on a detached connection; later unregister returned early and close skipped it. Both exact S94 public-API probes force that order on real ephemeral loopback libp2p peers and fail 3/3 native attempts on byte-identical c7a2f2b7 product source.
The final service retains one registration close state independently of relayConnection. One atomic operation closes its exact controller and stores one outcome. The first explicit teardown captures its error-consumer token under the lifecycle guard before callbacks/ACK waits. Same-thread unfinished-close reentry neither waits nor takes that token. Internal cleanup preserves its own context without consuming explicit delivery. Outcome consumption clears only the matching service slot, and selecting another physical stream replaces it, so a late old close cannot clear or close a replacement. There is one selected record and no growing error/generation history.
Further review proved two same-stream registration orders: a newer unregister could capture no claim while an older unregister held one, and a still later unregister could take the released claim before the first applicable newer unregister reached close. The final correction moves claim scope at the same two strictly-newer registration sequence/identity transitions that already move stream ownership. The older registration's claim is invalidated before any newer registration teardown captures, so the earliest new-registration teardown owns the new claim. Stale unregister preserves that reused stream and its claimant. The temporary late-claim refresh/release implementation was removed; there is one ownership mechanism, no queue, new wait or history. A late ACK for an already-reserved sequence cannot reset its first claimant, and existing identity/intent checks reject an obsolete initial ACK.
Seven final tests: (1) completed retirement before unregister, (2) completed retirement before close, (3) eight concurrent mixed explicit teardown callers requiring one exact error and one physical close, (4) unfinished-close callback reentry, (5) late old retirement after acknowledged physical replacement followed by the replacement's own forced retirement and exact new error, (6) overlapping unregisters across same-stream re-registration, (7) first-consumer order with an even later unregister acknowledged/closing before the earlier applicable caller's ACK. All use real protocol peers/ACK gates and genuine transport errors, no reflection or mocks. No pre-existing test edited by s95. A newly introduced replacement test was strengthened with extra deterministic retirement/join/state gates; every original assertion, payload and timeout remained intact. Its earlier first-failure-then-pass result is archived and not claimed as reliable red evidence.

Source/build/scripts/README/config equality for all relevant runner merge SHAs is independently verified. Every final-form regression was present and reliably red before its corresponding implementation change. All complete stacks, native XML and console logs are pushed in records.
Historical exact-source verification: https://github.com/CodexCoder21Organization/UrlProtocol/actions/runs/39768898531 at 0d0af839b7 gives five scenarios × ten first passes plus eleven neighbors = 61/61 first passes, zero failed attempts. https://github.com/CodexCoder21Organization/UrlProtocol/actions/runs/39770454915 at a1dd0336 gives six × ten plus eleven = 71/71 first passes, zero failed attempts. Neither verifies the final seven-scenario head. Final source is now independently audited: https://github.com/CodexCoder21Organization/UrlProtocol/actions/runs/39772987767 passes all seven scenarios 10/10 first attempts plus 11/11 neighbors: 81/81 first passes, 81 total attempts, zero failures. Every expected name/file/exit was checked. Runner merge bc6259cd25d726558c740c1f0f732ae44fb021c0 is byte-identical to final b5a27164 for src/tests/scripts/README/build.kts/config. Native XML hashes, complete logs and aggregate summary are pushed in fixed-final records. Do not rerun this completed batch.
Dedicated test-comprehensiveness and adversarial implementation review passes covered exact errors, concurrent/reentrant callers, stale ACKs, same-stream registration ownership, different-stream replacement, interruption, lock order, bounded retention and unchanged sender/grant settlement. No clock limit, payload, iteration count, assertion or public interface was relaxed. Required response-test fixture edits inherited by rebase came from main via https://github.com/CodexCoder21Organization/UrlProtocol/pull/834, not this lane.

Final required build https://github.com/CodexCoder21Organization/UrlProtocol/actions/runs/39772882596 is SUCCESS on workflow attempt 1 (fresh GraphQL 11:51 UTC). Final required full suite https://github.com/CodexCoder21Organization/UrlProtocol/actions/runs/39772882607 . Final exact-source targeted verification https://github.com/CodexCoder21Organization/UrlProtocol/actions/runs/39772987767 . Product is tracked by one plain build-watchman process. Evidence watcher exited 0 after the successful capture, and its draft is closed. There is no remaining evidence watcher or new batch. Earlier superseded suites were canceled; no canceled run is claimed as a result.
No merge, enqueue, publication or deployment was performed. Command history contains only source/evidence pushes, drafts, evidence closeouts, owned-run cancellations and handoff/record updates. Product PR description is current for final ownership behavior and pending check links.
Next steps
- DONE: exact-source final targeted run, complete native audit and evidence draft closeout. Seven regressions each fail 3/3 before the relevant fix and pass 10/10 final-source first attempts; 11/11 existing neighbors also pass first attempt. Do not re-run or broaden verification.
- Required build is already green. Finish only the existing required bld-all-tests run with build-watchman plain. If a required job fails, read its failed logs and diagnose; own failures must be fixed, and otherwise unassigned failures must also be shown on main before being called unrelated. Download test-attempt-history, audit every final/first/total attempt and preserve all failed-first stacks. Do not add more batches after both gates and this targeted run clear.
- Update PR validation with actual final-source native counts and links, push final records, and update/complete this scoped handoff if the lane is complete. If 12:45 arrives first, record exact pending checks, release the claim and report incomplete verification. Do not omit a known defect or claim pending checks passed.
- Stop only this lane's watchers, verify no owned background process remains, delete lane checkout and its matching ~/.aibuildcaches directory. Final reply: product URL/head, teardown table, red/green links, required statuses and first-attempt counts. Stop before merge/queue/publish/deploy.
Reusable / operational knowledge
Native XML stores final results in root test nodes and emits attempt-history only for multiple attempts. No-history successful test means one first-attempt pass. audit.py checks numbered histories, final agreement, nonzero test counts and complete coverage; historical native counts are independently audited.
Minimal JDK image lacks git; evidence records github.sha. Legacy JVM coursier bootstrap failed fetching class-path-util_3/zip-input-stream, then wrappers saved an invalid classpath and produced ClassNotFoundException kompile.cli.CliKt. Native x86_64 coursier from the same pinned launcher commit avoids that bootstrap. apt update also hit an Ubuntu index hash mismatch; existing image curl is sufficient, so evidence setup does not refresh package indexes. Product wrappers/workflows unchanged. report-challenge auto-merges and is explicitly forbidden here, so logs and durable-fix suggestions are in records.
Shared REST quota was exhausted until 11:42:29 UTC. Product watchman stayed alive and loudly reported 403; GraphQL provided sparse independent status reads. The evidence watcher exited on that API error rather than remaining active, so it was re-armed for the new final run after REST recovered (4862 remaining observed). No test/check was re-requested because of a monitor failure. Informational kotlin.build App zero-dispatch warnings do not gate and are not acted on. Keep at least 60 seconds between same-PR status reads and prefer GraphQL. No subagents per lane rules.
