Status report: 2026-10-22 03:31:38 UTC
Original request: "investigate the broken production service … follow TDD, figure out what went wrong, reproduce it in a test (TDD), fix it, merge and deploy." The service is TinySite (https://tinysite.wasmserver.com/); scope also covers UrlResolver, UrlProtocol, SimpleFileSystemServiceServer and BuildTest. Deploy approved after my merges. Latest instruction (03:2x UTC): "Update the handoff with the latest details and open questions. Kill the lanes which have been running for over an hour. Let other lanes finish gracefully and record the results but don't launch more."
🔴 Status: BLOCKED — winding down per your instruction; one lane is finishing, and four questions need you
Handoff created: https://www.handoff.wasmserver.com/handoffs/hf-2026-10-22-land-and-deploy-the-tinysite-memory-leak-fix-and-the-buildtest-disk-full-recovery-fix-once-buildtest-accepts-builds-again
TinySite: 4.5 s and 1.4 s on two checks just now (0.25 s at 01:31) — the leak is building again on the unfixed build.
- May I restart TinySite when it degrades (over 5 s)? Restart clears the leak; evidence is already saved. Recommendation: yes — reply "restart ok".
- UrlProtocol large replies — stream (A, recommended) or keep rejecting (B)? https://github.com/CodexCoder21Organization/UrlProtocol/pull/765 implements your "do the things that the web server does" direction; two existing tests (
OUTBOX_FULL for >4 MB replies; one 37,873-byte write) encode the old rule. First test update ready in https://github.com/CodexCoder21Organization/UrlProtocol/commit/85aa3448b73222c1cdb3b232674b43b5608910c9.
- Deploy TinySite main now (B) or wait for the properly built resolver (A, recommended)? https://github.com/CodexCoder21Organization/TinySiteWui/pull/24 was merged at 01:54 by the
codexcoder21 account (not by me); it pins resolver 0.0.1329, which has the fix but a non-standard build from a tree missing one commit.
- Relax the over-strict flaky UrlResolver test (A, recommended) or change the code (B)?
testGossipNegotiationFailurePreservesPendingRpc requires a brand-new connection where reusing an existing replacement is valid; forcing the valid case failed it 3/3. Option A accepts reuse but still requires the held request to complete exactly once.
Progress since the last report
- Handoff created with the four questions, your requirements verbatim, root cause and evidence, every PR, a verified table of all unmerged branches, and what is published/running but not merged.
- All local-only work pushed to
wip/…handoff-20261022 branches (11 pushes, each verified against GitHub), plus every lane's findings and a 24 KB uncommitted patch on https://github.com/CodexCoder21Organization/PlanRepository/tree/wip/tinysite-leak-buildtest-handoff-artifacts-20261022.
- Stopped the lanes running over an hour, with their test processes: BuildTest startup speed (r130), ContainerNursery log cap (r131), and the TinySite publish lane (r140). A first copy of r140 — which I believed I had stopped at 02:13 when relaunching it — was in fact still running and had just started a fresh full test run; it is now stopped too. No UrlResolver release was published (0.0.1332 still absent from kotlin.directory); PR 1382's head is unchanged at ff02bf3d.
- One lane still finishing (r143, BuildTest disk-full review fixes): its new test for the high-severity history-loss bug fails on the unfixed code as intended; it is now applying the fix (reads during a pending retry will combine the saved snapshot with matching pending changes). I'm waiting for it to exit and will record its results in the handoff. Nothing new will be launched.
- BuildTest still refuses builds — latest remote check still the 01:52
createUploadSession failure.

Delegated work at a glance
⏳ Running - GPT 6-luna max - 20 minutes total time - under 1 minute since last update - Fixing the six review findings on https://github.com/CodexCoder21Organization/BuildTestEmbedded/pull/1578 test-first. The history-loss test fails on the unfixed code as intended, and it is now applying the snapshot-plus-pending-changes fix, then will revert it once to prove the test catches the bug. Left running per your instruction; its results go into the handoff when it exits.
⚪ Not running (killed) - GPT 6-luna max - 1 hour 20 minutes total time - stopped 03:31 - First launch of the TinySite publish lane, which survived my 02:13 stop attempt; it had just restarted the UrlResolver full suite. Killed under the over-an-hour rule; nothing was published.
⚪ Not running (killed) - GPT 6-luna max - 1 hour 13 minutes total time - stopped 03:26 - TinySite publish lane (relaunch). Killed at ~58 minutes into the full suite (no test failures yet; 19 build steps failed fetching from kotlin.directory under load). Its TinySite branch is pushed to wip/r140-tinysite-resolver-handoff-20261022.
⚪ Not running (killed) - GPT 6-luna max - 7 hours 33 minutes total time - stopped 03:26 - BuildTest startup speed: 800-row load from 3.67 s to 2.09 s, budget still missed; work pushed to wip/r130-* branches plus an uncommitted patch on the artifacts branch.
⚪ Not running (killed) - GPT 6-luna max - 7 hours 33 minutes total time - stopped 03:26 - ContainerNursery log cap: 852/858 tests pass; one confirmed defect (relay inherits the app's environment). Pushed to wip/r131-bounded-child-logs-handoff-20261022.
How the fixes work
- TinySite leak: UrlResolver kept closed connections in a "retired" list forever; the fix removes each one once its shutdown finishes, even if shutdown fails part-way; TinySite then moves to a properly built UrlResolver release.
- BuildTest disk-full recovery: when a save fails for lack of disk, BuildTest keeps the pending data and retries with backoff, publishing each result once and in order; the current round makes reads during a pending retry combine saved and pending data so no history is lost.
- Slow-reader buffering (UrlProtocol): each connection gets a small capped buffer and large replies go out in pieces only as fast as the reader takes them.
🔴 Blockers
- Questions 1–4 above (your answers).
- Remote CI unavailable until BuildTest accepts builds.
- Per your instruction, no new lanes: rerunning the UrlResolver full suite, publishing 0.0.1332, and the new TinySite PR now wait for whoever resumes from the handoff.
Plan changes
-
Session is winding down: four lanes stopped, one finishing, handoff in place.
-
Holds audit: Waiting on you: Q1 TinySite restarts; Q2 https://github.com/CodexCoder21Organization/UrlProtocol/pull/765; Q3 deploying merged https://github.com/CodexCoder21Organization/TinySiteWui/pull/24; Q4 the flaky-test assertion. All other work is paused by your no-new-lanes instruction.
-
Landing parallelization sweep: No idle landing gates that can be started without new lanes.
-
Owner direction captured: "Update the handoff with the latest details and open questions. Kill the lanes which have been running for over an hour. Let other lanes finish gracefully and record the results but don't launch more." — recorded verbatim in the handoff's Design decisions section; applied (four lanes killed, r143 left running, nothing launched).
Next steps: you answer questions 1–4; I record r143's results in the handoff when it exits and release my claim, after which the remaining work (rerun the full suite, publish UrlResolver 0.0.1332, new TinySite PR, merge and deploy once BuildTest accepts builds, then the BuildTest and other fixes) resumes from the handoff.
Top-three lessons
- Verify a kill actually took effect. A lane I believed I had stopped and relaunched kept running for over an hour and started a second full test run. After any kill, re-list processes by working directory or PID and confirm each one is gone.
- A test can be flaky because it demands more than the contract promises. Before "fixing" code for a flaky test, check whether the assertion matches the contract; if not, propose the narrower assertion for approval.
- A fresh-context review after "all findings addressed" still finds real bugs. An independent reviewer proved a high-severity data-loss bug that the author and the first review missed. Re-review the final head before merging and require each suspicion to be proven with a test.
