Land the corrected runner PR, then release and adopt its compiler policy

Land the ready BuildTestRunner PR at e0af23d8 after its GitHub bld-build gate, then release an unused immutable version, adopt it in Embedded and the coordinator, and validate a new unchanged FileDrop run. Racing CI is already complete; no CI upgrade is needed. The orchestrator owns CI and landing; production adoption remains an explicitly authorized operator action.

Land the corrected runner PR, then release and adopt its compiler policy

Written 2026-10-27 09:06 UTC by fable-W2-1027.

RE-VERIFY: Snapshot only. Check https://github.com/CodexCoder21Organization/BuildTestRunner/pull/163 state/head/checks, git ls-remote, effective main rules, Maven metadata and current deployed coordinator before acting. The historical sections below retain older evidence; their pending local-suite and draft-PR instructions are superseded here.

Mission and current remaining work

The original owner asked to work through open handoffs and drive them to completion using best judgement without blocking questions. This item tracks the remaining FileDrop remote-timeout investigation through the upstream runner compiler-policy change. The narrow W2 continuation is finished: reviewed correction e0af23d8 is pushed onto the existing PR and the PR is ready for review. The broader handoff remains open for CI, orchestrator landing, immutable release, coordinator adoption and new unchanged FileDrop validation. Do not complete the handoff merely because the PR lands.

Decisions in force, 2026-10-27

 • "You may NOT merge, enqueue, auto-merge, or approve any PR. The orchestrator reviews and lands every PR."
 • "You may NOT deploy to production (ContainerNursery routes, restarts, uploads, Cloud Run)."
 • "You may publish a Maven artifact to kotlin.directory ONLY from a commit already on the repository's default branch, and only after the consumer's relevant tests ran green against that build (consumer first). Versions are immutable: bump, never republish."
 • "Never raise a timeout, cut a stress iteration count, skip/disable/delete a test or weaken an assertion."
 • Latest continuation ruling: "the full-suite gate is the GitHub runner bld-build check on the PR itself, not a local run." This supersedes the prior local-full-suite hold and instruction to keep the PR draft.
 • The orchestrator owns every remote wait; this worker used one bounded build-watchman --once and started no long watcher or test process.

What W2 verified and changed

OBSERVED: No claim existed at pickup. Claimed with fable-W2-1027. Fresh checkout read README; no root AGENTS.md exists. PR was OPEN/DRAFT at c544684824468bb83781b6ae2c06a46dae58655a, matching the brief. No duplicate correction PR was present in the open list.

OBSERVED: Fast-forwarded fix/fx14-remote-child-runtime to the existing reviewed correction e0af23d891a033a861a5aefbf2a2f3b151ba613b. Immediate fetch/rebase against main 8d630e02f9eb186f3e6a79dd3c601ad3e15aa880 made no changes. A normal push succeeded; git ls-remote matched the local full SHA. No force push or new source edit was needed. Updated the description and marked https://github.com/CodexCoder21Organization/BuildTestRunner/pull/163 ready for review; REST confirmed OPEN, draft=false, head=e0af23d8.

OBSERVED: Racing CI is already complete on main: both scripts pin kompile-cli 0.0.121, active workflow .github/workflows/bld-build.yml reports bld-build and runs build and full suite with --local-and-remote. It includes pull_request/main, push/main, merge_group/main and workflow_dispatch, JDK21, prerequisites, disk checks and a 150-minute ceiling. Effective main requirements contain bld-build and no remote App check. No CI upgrade PR or ruleset edit is needed.

OBSERVED: Exact-head GitHub runner run https://github.com/CodexCoder21Organization/BuildTestRunner/actions/runs/40477890610 is IN_PROGRESS, conclusion null at the one-shot read. build-watchman returned PENDING exit=0. It also flagged informational App suite 109664290406 as queued with zero dispatched runs on this previously pushed correction SHA; this is not the required runner gate. No rerequest, deletion or receiver mutation was performed. The orchestrator owns subsequent monitoring.

Accepted continuation evidence on this identical source head: basic/delayed/retained each passed 1/1 first attempt; basic has parent-red, correction-green and literal-revert-red proof. Existing independent review found no concrete bug or coverage gap. W2 inspected the correction diff, which changes the HTTP adapter to an explicit HttpHandler object and preserves handler behavior and assertions. No new local/full test run was made; the latest ruling explicitly delegates that gate to bld-build. The earlier full-suite child startup failure remains preserved below, with its cause unresolved; it has not been relabeled a passing gate.

The repository is clean, with no stash or local-only commit. W2 published no artifact and made no production change. Historical deployment/version claims below were not refreshed by this narrow continuation and must be reverified before release/adoption.

Exact next steps

 1. Orchestrator monitors the required exact-head bld-build run, diagnoses any failure without blind reruns, reviews and lands the existing PR. W2 is not waiting on CI and is not marking the overall handoff DONE.
 2. Recheck current runner releases and ReleaseIdentity. Prepare and land a new unused immutable release (historically 0.0.123 and 0.0.124 already exist; do not overwrite either). Keep main's existing PIPELINE fixes. Build it from the default branch and run the unchanged relevant FileDrop consumer tests against that source build before publication.
 3. Publish only the merged runner commit. Update/test/review/land BuildTestEmbedded's SERIAL/PIPELINE catalog tuple, artifact SHA256, closure digest, manager/buildscript tuple and tests while retaining persisted historical policies. Run consumer gates before publishing Embedded from its default branch.
 4. Update/test/review/land BuildTestServerService's Embedded pin. An explicitly authorized operator then builds buildtest.server.buildFatJar from its updated main and deploys the coordinator to ContainerNursery service buildtest (url://buildtest/). This is a production action and was not performed here. No FileDrop service deploy is needed for runner-only adoption.
 5. Submit NEW unchanged FileDrop validation after the updated coordinator accepts the new policy. Old accepted runs retain their historical tuple. Account for remaining timeout mechanisms before completing the handoff; the compiler-policy evidence is not proof of every original remote cause.

Operational notes

The installed gh pr edit command fails with: GraphQL: Projects (classic) is being deprecated ... (repository.pullRequest.projectCards). Used gh api PATCH repos/CodexCoder21Organization/BuildTestRunner/pulls/163 with a JSON body file instead; REST confirmed the final head and ready state. This workaround was already present in the historical handoff. No report-challenge CLI was invoked because its automatic merge conflicts with this worker's explicit no-merge rule.

Documents consulted: full handoff and handoff-triage README; BuildTestRunner README; github-builders-racing-remote-ci.md; Testing Architecture and Engineering Philosophy. No new implementation or tests were authored in W2. No delegates, timer, local JVM test run or long CI watcher remain.

Preserved historical evidence

Finish the full-suite gate, then ready and release the runner

RE-VERIFY: Snapshot only. Query https://github.com/CodexCoder21Organization/BuildTestRunner/pull/163 state/head/checks, git ls-remote, native XML/attempt histories, BuildTest API readiness and published versions before acting.

Remaining work and current decision

Diagnose the full-suite prerequisite startup failure below, obtain a clean exact-head full gate, then update and ready the existing PR. The basic WIP HttpExchange discovery failure is corrected and its requested three targeted cases passed first try. The narrow continuation hit its time checkpoint before completing the full gate, so the PR remains draft and this handoff is not complete. No merge, enqueue, approval, publication or production action occurred.

The current source is e0af23d891a033a861a5aefbf2a2f3b151ba613b on the durable correction branch below. Preserve the same existing PR after the gate; do not open a duplicate. The owner requested this narrow continuation on 2026-10-27: correct WIP discovery, run basic/delayed/retained one at a time and one exact-head full suite, update the PR using a lease and mark ready. No timeout, memory cap, iteration count, assertion or test was weakened or removed.

Corrected discovery mechanism and completed gates

The WIP added an inline HttpServer SAM lambda to the basic test script. Kotlin emits its implementation as a synthetic script-class method taking HttpExchange. Discovery resolves declared script method signatures through an isolated loader that cannot see that platform-module class. An explicit HttpHandler object keeps handle(HttpExchange) on its implementation class instead. No product loader, module set, allow-list or runner policy was changed. The HTTP handler body and all later basic-test source are equivalent after indentation; cleanup/assertions/budgets are unchanged.

 • Parent 537fdcbb: basic discovery fails at 0 ms, 0/1 first/final, 2/2 rules. Full stack ends ClassNotFoundException HttpExchange in URLClassLoader, wrapped by NoClassDefFoundError at Class.getDeclaredMethods0 -> WorkspaceKt.prepareTests:6534.
 • Fixed e0af23d8: basic 1/1 first/final, no histories, 16035ms, 2/2 rules.
 • Literal parent revert: same discovery failure again at 0 ms, 0/1, 2/2 rules. Fixed branch restored afterward.
 • Same fixed head: delayed 1/1 first/final, no histories, 22658ms, 3/3 rules; retained 1/1 first/final, no histories, 72107ms, 3/3 rules. Cache reuse and cold-control assertions pass.
 • Independent read-only test/code review found no concrete bug or introduced coverage gap. Root checked and accepted it. No README public-contract update was needed for the fixture adapter correction.

New full-suite finding: not a passing gate

One full local suite was launched from clean e0af23d8 at 06:40 UTC after fetch/rebase; no other local full suite was active. The authoritative BuildTest API refused reads with INTERNAL_ERROR / RECOVERING_LOCAL_STATE (elapsedMs6082473) while frontend /health said OK, so the ruling's local fallback applied. No remote duplicate was submitted.

The single full local invocation ended at its 1,650-second orchestration deadline with exit124. It emitted no final /tmp/W6-full.xml; aggregate pass/fail, first-attempt and final counts are UNKNOWN, not zero and not a passing gate. The prerequisite startup failure described below was observed. No blind repeat was submitted.

The run reported rule e2e.teste2esixteendependencygraphsreusecommonartifact.nativeinputs.buildMaven() failed in 32674ms: its child did not connect within the existing 10000ms ceiling. The rule's 1200000ms deadline had not expired (elapsed18984ms). The child was forcibly terminated. Dump at 06:42:51 showed main RUNNABLE, 4.65sCPU in 12.4selapsed, in LinuxFileSystemProvider.readAttributes -> ZipFile -> URLClassPath -> LauncherHelper.loadMainClass, before application main connected. Last stderr was none. The source of this prerequisite owner has NO diff from c5446848 to e0af23d8. This snapshot does not establish why the pre-main class load took that long, and no capacity explanation or timeout fix is claimed.

The full run then continued preparation. At06:56 parent was waiting at prepareTests:6315 on four RUNNABLE Kotlin compiler workers (roughly 30-34sCPU over 91selapsed), rather than the earlier rule-preparation wait at 6213. The startup failure was printed after script compilation warnings, explaining why the earlier quiet log did not show it. Do not erase it with a blind suite rerun. Establish its mechanism and deterministic trigger before any implementation fix; keep existing budgets.

Full stack/dump and native outputs are local volatile files: /tmp/W6-full-startup-failure.txt, /tmp/W6-full.log, /tmp/W6-full.xml if present, plus /tmp/W6-basic-red.xml, /tmp/W6-basic-green.xml, /tmp/W6-basic-revert.xml, /tmp/W6-delayed.xml and /tmp/W6-retained.xml. Absence is not a blocker: regenerate from current code. Test/build outputs were not committed to source. The complete observed startup error follows below.

No source work exists only locally. No other source was changed. Historical hosted c544 suite 416/416 first and 30/30 rules is predecessor evidence only. Old 537f workflow 40459227920 is confirmed completed/cancelled. Original owned-input fresh-lease guard-only failed 3/3, fix first passed, literal revert failed 3/3; those prove external input coupling in that timed fixture, not every original FileDrop timeout.

After the full gate and merge

 1. Finish the full-suite diagnosis/gate, then verify the PR is still OPEN and head unchanged. Fetch/rebase, preserve other pushes, update the same PR branch with an explicit lease and mark ready. The orchestrator owns review, CI waits and merge.
 2. ReleaseIdentity still names published 0.0.123; highest numeric Maven release observed 0.0.124. Prepare/review/merge an unused immutable version (at least 0.0.125 at this snapshot), preserving main's PIPELINE124 fixes. Never republish 0.0.123/124. Run unchanged FileDrop consumer tests against that source-built runner before publishing only a default-branch commit.
 3. Update/test/review/merge BuildTestEmbedded SERIAL/PIPELINE catalog tuple, artifact SHA256 and closure digest, manager 207/buildscript tuple and tests, retaining persisted historical policies. Publish its main build only after consumer gates.
 4. Update/test/review/merge BuildTestServerService's Embedded pin. An authorized operator builds buildtest.server.buildFatJar from the updated main and deploys the coordinator to ContainerNursery service buildtest (url://buildtest/). No FileDrop production deploy is needed for runner-only adoption.
 5. Submit NEW unchanged FileDrop validation after adoption; old accepted runs retain their manager 205 tuple. Account for remaining timeout mechanisms before completing the handoff.

Historical snapshots and evidence

These older sections retain their durable evidence/branch links. Their current-state and permission claims are superseded by the section above and the narrow ruling.

Resolve basic policy discovery, then finish verification and release the runner

Written 2026-10-27 06:00 UTC by fable-W6-1027.

RE-VERIFY: Snapshot only. Read current PR state/head/checks, git ls-remote, native attempt histories, and BuildTest health before acting.

Current remaining work

OBSERVED: Final 537fdcbb basic policy test failed at discovery (0 ms), before its body ran: NoClassDefFoundError: com/sun/net/httpserver/HttpExchange, caused by URLClassLoader ClassNotFoundException during kompile WorkspaceKt.prepareTests. Delayed and retained each passed 1/1 first attempt on this head; fresh passed 1/1 first on 987d with a 3/3 failing literal revert control. The final combined-head fresh run and full-suite gate remain incomplete. Do not land the draft PR or treat predecessor full-suite evidence as validation of 537f. Investigate the loader/platform-module boundary and inline basic fixture organization test-first; no fix is claimed. The 110-minute time limit ended execution. All source is pushed to the WIP branch. No local test process remains. The final WIP workflow cancellation was requested after the known discovery failure; its final state must be rechecked. No production action occurred.

At the100-minute checkpoint all source is pushed. Final537f delayed and retained each pass1/1 first; basic failed discovery as recorded above, and combined-head fresh has not been rerun (its source is unchanged from987d first green). Final full workflow https://github.com/CodexCoder21Organization/BuildTestRunner/actions/runs/40459227920 is in progress. Finish individual policy gates on537fdcbb, update the existing draft PR after those gates, and obtain required green. Then the orchestrator may land it; prepare an immutable runner release and the catalog/server-pin/adoption chain below. The service is still reporting startup recovery, so the final BuildTest remote requests did not provide test evidence. No merge, enqueue, approval, publication or deployment is authorized to this worker.

Current source and evidence

 • Existing https://github.com/CodexCoder21Organization/BuildTestRunner/pull/163 is now atc544684824468bb83781b6ae2c06a46dae58655a, DRAFT while a newly found fixture issue is finished. Its exact hosted workflow https://github.com/CodexCoder21Organization/BuildTestRunner/actions/runs/40452392756 has416/416 first and final, zero histories,30/30 successful rules. Rebase-only ea73 workflow https://github.com/CodexCoder21Organization/BuildTestRunner/actions/runs/40450361081 has416/416 first/final,zero histories,15/15 rules. Counts were recomputed from sibling attempt-history elements keyed by file/name, not just canonical test rows.
 • Local c544 basic and delayed policy cases passed first. Fresh-lease case failed first188030ms at the existing180second drain assertion before dependencies_resolved/child launch, then automatic retry passed43207ms. Do not call this first-attempt clean or attribute its whole stall solely from that wait site.
 • A deterministic test-only guard072f732f88910810d29092e0017148b6647048d4 denies external HTTPS in the real fixture child. It fails3/3 body attempts5857/5238/5802ms at the stdlib1.9.22 POM on kotlin.directory and Google Maven Central. This proves the timed fixture has uncaptured external inputs. An earlier0ms guard attempt failed in prerequisite artifact setup and was disqualified.
 • Fix987d7146bac28f1946e32dd6904012e610d37d0b packages published stdlib1.9.22/annotations13.0 POM+JARs alongside the unchanged six native payloads, using a separate policy index. A real loopback HTTP repository serves those immutable inputs and SHA1 sidecars; generated sources declare WithRepository; HTTPS is denied and any marker fails the outer assertion; finally stops the server. Fresh policy passes1/1 first/final,zero histories. Literal revert to072f then fails3/3 actual bodies11758/13287/8604ms. All prior assertions/messages/deadlines/heaps remain.
 • Final537fdcbb propagates that same owned-input pattern to basic, delayed and retained-cache paths, each owning separate support/resources. No ordinary or unsupported cancellation owner changed. The final individual gates are in progress; do not substitute predecessor evidence for the new whole head.
 • Remote targetedfd8ca3b4 and full09ec4662 stopped waiting without cancellation after15minutes of failed lease renewal; last statusPENDING and health STARTING: recovering local state. Neither produced XML. A local single-test fallback is authorized because the service is affirmatively not ready. No local full suite was run. Do not resubmit accepted remote runs without verifying their state.

Exact continuation after verification and landing

 1. Recheck states first; finish the final four named policy cases from537f, one at a time locally only while remote service is not ready, retaining first-attempt counts. Verify source clean/head exact. Update the same PR with explicit lease, preserving other pushes. Obtain required green without retrying failures blindly.
 2. Orchestrator may land after its review. ReleaseIdentity still names already-published0.0.123; metadata highest numeric release is0.0.124. Choose an unused immutable release, at least0.0.125 at this snapshot, preserving main's PIPELINE124 fixes. Run relevant FileDrop consumer cases against the source-built runner before publishing only a merged default-branch commit.
 3. Update BuildTestEmbedded SERIAL/PIPELINE catalog tuple, artifact SHA256/closure digest, manager207/buildscript tuple and tests, retaining persisted legacy policies. Merge/publish its default-branch build after consumer gates, then update/test/merge BuildTestServerService's Embedded pin (current main8ce1415c5fcd57ebc1afdc3a899a7e2d439545de selects0.0.69274772).
 4. An authorized operator builds buildtest.server.buildFatJar from updated main and deploys the coordinator to ContainerNursery url:buildtest:. No FileDrop production deploy is needed for runner-only policy adoption. Submit NEW unchanged FileDrop validation after adoption; accepted old runs retain manager205 tuples. Account for any remaining timeout mechanism before archiving.

No publication, deploy, server restart, route edit or production data change occurred. No source was changed outside BuildTestRunner. The full original branch/evidence history follows; current section supersedes its status claims.

Verify the isolated runner policy tests, then land and release the runner

Written 2026-10-27 04:57 UTC by fable-W6-1027.

RE-VERIFY: This is a write-time snapshot. Query https://github.com/CodexCoder21Organization/BuildTestRunner/pull/163, git ls-remote, native runner records, and current Maven metadata before acting.

Current continuation and decisions

The orchestrator's 2026-10-27 ruling supersedes the prior claim that exact-head verification or orchestrator landing is a blocker. W6 claimed the item and cleared that stale blocked reason. W6 may not merge, enqueue, approve, publish an unmerged commit, or deploy. Verification is in progress.

Existing https://github.com/CodexCoder21Organization/BuildTestRunner/pull/163 was updated with an explicit lease from3af8f3a to the clean rebase ea73c6dc. Independent review found no demonstrated runtime regression but found shared test support contrary to required test isolation guidance. Structural correction3dafc1f9 duplicates support under each scenario owner with unique packages. All27 copied files and15 existing consumer edits are byte-equivalent after package/rule normalization. Every body, assertion, message, timeout and iteration is preserved. A final namespace correction c5446848 gives each owner unique native resource names, preventing sibling resource selection on a combined classpath. All78 namespace replacements across27files compare exactly after normalization. No production source changed. Root reviewed the correction.

Six targeted policy/cancellation cases and the full suite were submitted remotely from exact clean headc5446848. Targeted fd8ca3b4 and full09ec4662 clients exited1 without XML after failing to renew their900000ms leases; last statusPENDING, no cancellation. The service explicitly returned STARTING: recovering local state (elapsedMs839636/846279) instead of OK. This is a remote infrastructure failure, not a test failure. Do not resubmit without checking these accepted runs. The allowed local targeted fallback is waiting for other workers to release the shared6GiB budget; no local full suite will run. The existing workflow also verifies this head at https://github.com/CodexCoder21Organization/BuildTestRunner/actions/runs/40452392756. Native counts are still pending. The3daf requests a70d8509/0d04c1ab were canceled before a result because the resource namespace correction was required. Earlier fc0b3eab was similarly superseded before archive analysis. These are not red or green test results; no failed test was rerun hoping for success.

Required bld-build in progress; no corrected-head gate claimed.

Fresh check evidence and limits

 • Main8d630e02 bld-build is SUCCESS at https://github.com/CodexCoder21Organization/BuildTestRunner/actions/runs/40041500054. Its remote check https://github.com/CodexCoder21Organization/BuildTestRunner/runs/120713384132 failed before upload with createUploadSessionStructured / execution-duration publication IOException: No space left on device under /root/buildtest-data.
 • Old PR remote check https://github.com/CodexCoder21Organization/BuildTestRunner/runs/120490591134 retained an overall180minute deadline error while39cce837 remained TESTING; its last status read failed during startup recovery RECOVERING_LOCAL_STATE. The raw log has expired. This differs from the base's disk error; do not claim identical causes.
 • Build-watchman one-shot found ea73c6dc app suite109632090008 queued with zero runs while base had dispatched checks. One bounded receiver read and one accepted rerequest were performed; the suite still had zero runs afterward. No failed test was blindly retried.
 • Runner Maven metadata still has highest numeric release0.0.124. Its published POM selects manager0.0.205/executionenvironment0.0.44/clocks-simple0.0.11. No artifact was published and no production mutation was performed.
 • report-challenge CLI auto-enqueues/merges, prohibited by this brief. Friction is recorded here instead.

Next steps

 1. Obtain native first-attempt/final counts for bothc5446848 submissions and diagnose any failures before editing. No tests, assertions, deadlines or iterations may be weakened.
 2. Once the exact-head full shared-contract gate passes, verify the PR is still open and its head unchanged, fetch/rebase if needed, and update its branch using an explicit lease. Preserve this same PR. Get required checks green and record native first-attempt counts. No long CI watcher is owned by W6.
 3. Report NEEDS_MERGE_THEN_CONTINUE to the orchestrator. After merge, choose a fresh immutable runner release (at least0.0.125 at this snapshot), preserve PIPELINE124 fixes, run relevant FileDrop consumer cases against the source build before publishing a default-branch commit.
 4. Update and test BuildTestEmbedded's runner catalog tuple, artifact hash and closure digest while retaining historical policy records; merge/publish from main after consumer gates. Then update/test/merge BuildTestServerService's Embedded pin.
 5. Authorized operator deploys the updated BuildTestServerService buildtest.server.buildFatJar to the ContainerNursery buildtest service. Submit a NEW unchanged FileDrop run after adoption (old accepted runs retain their policy). Account for remaining timeouts rather than claiming the compiler-policy change proves every cause.

Previous snapshot and historical evidence

The following snapshot is retained for its durable branch/evidence links and original request. Current continuation above supersedes its status, PR head and pending verification instructions.

Validate and adopt the upstream runner policy before rechecking FileDrop timeouts

Written 2026-10-27 04:26 UTC by fable-W6-1027. This handoff remains open.

RE-VERIFY: This is a write-time snapshot. Recheck every PR with gh pr view <full URL> --json state, mergedAt,headRefOid,statusCheckRollup, branches with git ls-remote, published POMs at kotlin.directory, and current remote logs. No new FileDrop application fix is claimed.

Design decisions in force

The 2026-10-27 owner request is to own this handoff through completion, triage old claims skeptically, salvage useful work, and avoid blocking questions. Current worker rules supersede historical pending permission questions and local-only execution restrictions below.

 • "You may NOT merge, enqueue, auto-merge, or approve any PR. The orchestrator reviews and lands every PR."
 • "You may NOT deploy to production (ContainerNursery routes, restarts, uploads, Cloud Run). If completion requires a deploy, finish everything before it and report the exact deploy step needed."
 • "Do NOT run long CI watches; the orchestrator holds every remote wait."

Mission and current decision

The remaining task is to validate and land the existing upstream compiler-policy update, publish a fresh runner release, adopt it in the coordinator, and then verify FileDrop's unchanged tests under that runner. The FileDrop dependency PR is already merged. A second FileDrop or upstream policy implementation would duplicate existing work.

W6 is blocked on the orchestrator's upstream landing and subsequent authorized production adoption. The clean rebase below is saved as partial work, not labelled ready: its remote verification never reached a test body, and its exact-head full suite has not run. Existing https://github.com/CodexCoder21Organization/BuildTestRunner/pull/163 and its branch were not changed, merged, closed or enqueued.

What W6 verified firsthand

 1. https://github.com/CodexCoder21Organization/FiledropServiceServer/pull/39 merged at 2026-10-26T21:56:45Z. Current FileDrop main is 4be206c581a7532ca73904198e79fd562f5a729c and selects resolver0.0.1337/protocol0.0.1434/libp2p snapshot-38/Embedded0.1.31. No open FileDrop PR remained at the check. Historical instructions to shepherd that PR are obsolete.
 2. The L178 evidence branch remains1c0c9df9b0a98d00d3eeee38989bbe7635d89258. W6 read its summary and execution-policy records and inspected original control XML/runtime arguments from control-c1-only-01.tar.gz. The records contain30/32 baseline and32/32 candidate first failures in eight constrained batches per side, with12/12 C1-policy-only first passes at unchanged30-second budgets,128m heap and bodies. The baseline there is50ff7bb; it is not current FileDrop main. This supports the demonstrated local compiler-policy condition; it does not establish every remote failure's cause or refute extra transport latency.
 3. Published runner0.0.124's POM directly selects manager0.0.205/executionenvironment0.0.44/clocks-simple0.0.11. Published metadata's highest numeric runner version is0.0.124. Current live remote log https://buildtest.kotlin.build/log/raw?id=39e237d9 independently shows fetching runner0.0.124 and manager0.0.205. Original FileDrop run https://buildtest.kotlin.build/log/raw?id=cc1a8389 shows the same pair. The current run-list snapshot was fresh, not an old failed-refresh view.
 4. BuildTestEmbedded main5f720d2a10b9ad20bf4f1383d2574cf6a40abf6f has SERIAL0.0.123 and PIPELINE0.0.124 catalog entries, both manager0.0.205, in src/buildtest/embedded/BuildDriver.kt:717-736. Each entry includes the runner artifact hash and dependency-closure hash. Per-run policies retain that exact tuple through restart. A FileDrop script pin cannot change these remote children, and an old accepted run will not adopt a new tuple after a coordinator upgrade.
 5. Existing https://github.com/CodexCoder21Organization/BuildTestRunner/pull/163 already adopts manager0.0.207/executionenvironment0.0.51/clocks-simple0.0.15 and tests real child compilation flags through the public work queue. It is OPEN at3af8f3a3c9d342862a5bef46baad567b453adacc. W6 downloaded the native XML from https://github.com/CodexCoder21Organization/BuildTestRunner/actions/runs/39975996316:402/402 tests pass on their first attempts, zero histories,15/15 build rules pass. This is the exact original PR head. Its last commit is an empty redispatch over a3a2fb6468f35d33bd44a6a726853bed740377da. The two remote checks are FAILURE; the old remote log39cce837 has expired. Do not call those checks green or newly diagnosed.
 6. https://github.com/CodexCoder21Organization/BuildTestRunner/pull/163 predates main's queue-completion and fixture-endpoint updates. W6 replayed its seven commits cleanly onto main8d630e02, preserving those fixes. The resulting branch is ea73c6dc3694eb8b65dc4d6f2df2b1e6a2a7b562. It adds no implementation beyond the existing policy PR and current main. No assertions, deadlines or iterations were changed by W6. An independent static audit confirmed the clean merge and public test paths. The named scenarios cover normal, delayed, fresh-after-failure and retained-cache child launches; retained-cache tests check actual reuse plus a cold control. The audit's conditional argument-membership/collector limits did not demonstrate a production bug in this specific change.
 7. W6 submitted exactly one four-case remote request from the rebased tree. Run https://buildtest.kotlin.build/run?id=da4acaa8 remained before archive analysis, with zero test bodies. A one-shot attach confirmed PENDING. In accordance with the orchestrator-owned-waits rule, W6 stopped its local waiting client. The authoritative raw log then recorded CANCELED at04:24:41 with kompile-cli process interrupted, after only archive-analysis waiting. This is neither a red nor a green test result. No full suite was submitted and no request was resubmitted.
 8. Root code review and a separate static test review found no demonstrated implementation issue in the policy diff. Rebased-head targeted/full-suite validation remains unperformed. The old402/402 result must not be applied to the rebased tree. The partial rebase was pushed under the blocked-work checkpoint requirement, not the ready-to-push test gate.

 1. Recheck https://github.com/CodexCoder21Organization/BuildTestRunner/pull/163, main and W6's remote branch. Use the saved rebase as the starting point; rebase again if main advanced. Do not overwrite another session's push. Keep the existing PR rather than opening a duplicate policy PR.
 2. Run the four measured-compiler-policy scenarios from the rebased tree, then its complete suite from the exact candidate. Use remote execution and let the orchestrator hold the accepted run. Record first-attempt and final counts separately. da4acaa8 was canceled before execution; it provides no validation. Command: scripts/test.bash --remote --test testE2EQueuedChildUsesMeasuredCompilerPolicy --test testE2EDelayedQueuedChildUsesMeasuredCompilerPolicy --test testE2EFreshLeaseAfterFailureUsesMeasuredCompilerPolicy --test testE2ERetainedCacheQueuedChildrenUseMeasuredCompilerPolicy --log /tmp/policy-targeted.xml; full gate is scripts/test.bash --remote --test . --log /tmp/policy-full.xml.
 3. After the exact-head gates and reviews, the authorized orchestrator may update/land https://github.com/CodexCoder21Organization/BuildTestRunner/pull/163. W6 has not authorized a merge or waived its red remote checks.
 4. Prepare a fresh immutable runner release on the default branch. ReleaseIdentity.kt still says0.0.123 and both123/124 are already published. Recheck metadata, bump to an unused version (at least125 at this snapshot), and preserve current main's PIPELINE0.0.124 behavior. Run the relevant FileDrop consumer cases against that source-built runner before publishing. Publish only a default-branch commit; never overwrite123/124.
 5. Update BuildTestEmbedded's SERIAL/PIPELINE release catalog, artifact SHA-256, closure digest, manager/buildscript tuple and related tests for the new release, retaining legacy recorded-policy behavior. Validate and open its adoption PR. Publish its merged default-branch build after relevant consumer gates, then update BuildTestServerService's Embedded pin with its own tested PR.
 6. Deployment remains an operator action: after those merges and gates, build buildtest.server.buildFatJar from BuildTestServerService's updated default branch and deploy that coordinator to the ContainerNursery buildtest service (url://buildtest/). W6 may not upload, restart or alter the route. No FileDrop production deploy is required for a runner-only policy change.
 7. Submit a NEW unchanged FileDrop validation after the new coordinator accepts the corrected runner tuple; old accepted runs retain their policy. Preserve every deadline/assertion/iteration, compare first attempts, and inspect the production-large-reply, maximum-chunk and range-boundary cases. If the same deadline or extra transport cost remains, isolate that remaining mechanism rather than claiming this policy change proved all remote causes. Archive this handoff only after the original remote symptom is accounted for and validated.

Reusable observations

The current WUI list and raw log endpoints are readable. Detail returned not-found for a run whose raw log existed, and test-results returned503 during this check; prefer a one-shot CLI attach and the raw log for that state. The old PR remote log expired. This friction is recorded here because report-challenge-cli auto-merges/enqueues, which this worker's explicit rules forbid.

Required documents read: handoff triage README, full prior handoff, FileDrop README, relevant BuildTestEmbedded/BuildTestRunner/kompile-core and BuildTestServerService context, Testing Architecture and Engineering Philosophy. A separate static audit read the full BuildTestRunner README and both full testing/philosophy documents. All owned local wait/test/clone processes were stopped before final closeout.

L178 result: the one-CPU deadline condition predates the PR

Written 2026-10-26 21:22 UTC. L178's local comparison is complete. The broader handoff remains open; it is not archived by this result.

RE-VERIFY: the authoritative evidence is https://github.com/CodexCoder21Organization/FiledropServiceServer/tree/wip/hd22-L178-filedrop/evidence/L178 at https://github.com/CodexCoder21Organization/FiledropServiceServer/commit/1c0c9df9b0a98d00d3eeee38989bbe7635d89258 . Push and git ls-remote agree on that head. PR https://github.com/CodexCoder21Organization/FiledropServiceServer/pull/39 was freshly OPEN, unmerged, unchanged at c3c1c48e8d64dd6fbd3a1a3bc995682f3287fe39, required bld-build SUCCESS, mergeStateStatus UNSTABLE. Remote checks remain informational. Main remains 50ff7bbe5cc942d96f77a758a50c0f967b422381. No merge, enqueue, deployment, library publication, remote build service invocation or full-suite execution occurred.

Operational note verified 2026-10-26 21:28 UTC: handoff-cli0.0.9 report --status DONE automatically sets completedAtMs, archives the handoff and removes claims. A following release therefore returned INTERNAL_ERROR because L178 no longer had a claim. This differs from the status-report skill text, which describes a separate completion step. Since only L178’s comparison is complete and the broader work remains, handoff-cli reopen was used. Check completedAtMs is null after reopening; do not submit another DONE report for this broader handoff until its remaining work is complete. No reportchallenge automatic merge was used under the current no-merge rule.

L178 decisions and scope

The current brief requests eight no-JFR single-CPU probes per version, identical test bodies, first-attempt XML counts and phase timings, a regression-versus-existing-condition verdict, mechanism evidence and proposed smallest fix. All runs are targeted and local. All 16 reads, the 4 MiB payload, 100 races, assertions, injected clocks and 30000ms test-method limits are unchanged. No reflection, mocks, timeout increase, payload/iteration cut or other model session was introduced. No notes files were added to repositories; explicitly requested measurement data are under evidence/L178.

Matched comparison

Eight batches per version, four genuine test bodies per batch on CPU0, manager 0.0.205/C2, no JFR. Current-main production src/src-client/build.kts are exactly main50ff7bb; PR production is exactly c3c1c48. Both target scripts are byte-identical (SHA256 in manifest.json). Main selects Embedded0.1.31/resolver1306/libp2p27; PR selects Embedded0.1.27/resolver1337/libp2p38. Test runtime classpaths and JVM arguments are retained. Each batch warms the two targets first without affinity; all 32 warm-up test first attempts passed and are excluded from probe counts.

Version Failed batches First body PASS / FAIL Including retries PASS / FAIL First failure phases
Current main50ff7bb 8/8 2 / 30 6 / 86 14 reads, 15 races, 1 cleanup
PRc3c1c48 8/8 0 / 32 0 / 96 16 reads, 16 races

First-attempt outcomes in copy order production / maximum / production / maximum:

Batch Main PR
1 read / race / read / race read / race / read / race
2 read / race / read / race read / race / read / race
3 read / race / read / race read / race / read / race
4 read / race / read / race read / race / read / race
5 read / race / read / race read / race / read / race
6 read / race / read / race read / race / read / race
7 read / PASS / read / race read / race / read / race
8 PASS / race / cleanup / race read / race / read / race

The maximum-chunk failures occur after the 4 MiB download. Exact commit/delete waits, race setup/check operations, active callers and per-phase timings for every first attempt are at https://github.com/CodexCoder21Organization/FiledropServiceServer/blob/wip/hd22-L178-filedrop/evidence/L178/first-attempts.csv . Do not force a race-setup or race-check failure into a commit/delete bucket. All 188 attempts and timings are in all-attempts.csv; full distinct error stacks and their occurrences are in distinct-retry-stacks.json, with original full XML/console records in each of the 16 batch tar.gz archives. First attempts come from attempt-history/attempt[1], not canonical success after retries.

Two canonical first-success XML records suppress console output. Their post-test traces were recovered and preserved with matching metadata in recovered-success-traces.tar.gz. XML reported elapsed includes launcher/termination overhead: main's successful production result is30176ms, while its trace reaches cleanup-end at27852ms; the configured method limit remains30000ms.

Representative timing medians across the first-attempt rows (ms; completed calls only, including expected failed commits when deletion wins):

Scenario/phase Main PR
Production: setup until upload begins 14004 14624
Production: upload round trip 3882 4169
Production: per-run median large-read latency 1487 2144
Maximum: setup until chunk upload 13302 14328
Maximum: upload through initial commit 2094 2388
Maximum: 4 MiB download 2227 2328
Races: per-run median commit latency 203 292
Races: per-run median delete latency 228 309

These are censored deadline experiments: calls still pending at the limit are not counted as completed. Read/race iteration progress, exact public method labels and last actions at approximate30s and at process termination are retained in CSV. See summary.json for units and interpretation.

Verdict and mechanism

Verdict(b), for the requested probe: every one-CPU batch fails on both versions, with 93.75% versus100% first body failures. The timeout class exists on main and on original main; the dependency update is not necessary to produce it. The result does not establish unchanged PR performance: the PR progresses more slowly, and the experiment is near its failure ceiling.

The observed exception is the runner's whole-test30000ms watchdog. It does not say an individual RPC took30000ms. Setup consumes about13–15s under contention, then reads and individual race calls keep completing until the method-wide budget expires. The one cleanup failure has already finished all reads. At the deadline, client main is parked in FutureTask.get/SandboxedProxyGenerator and a server read handler can be parked in PersistentRpcConnection.doSendRequest. These locate pending work, not an established deadlock: subsequent read/race completions continue, sampled gossip queues drain to zero and connection counts remain bounded (roughly2–3).

Kernel scheduler samples from the first batch show only about6–9 CPU seconds per JVM during about31 wall seconds, plus substantial runnable-queue waits across compiler, network and service workers. Separate async-profiler CPU controls use collapsed text, not JFR, and are excluded from counts. About20–27% of those CPU samples are compiler threads and10–15% include class loading; categories overlap. This is cold test-JVM execution work competing with application work on the same CPU, consuming a fixed method-wide wall-clock budget.

Causal controls, retaining all work and the same30000ms limit:

Control First attempt results
Same main bodies, one body at a time on CPU1, manager205 4/4 PASS
Same main bodies, four copies on CPU1, manager207 12/12 PASS
Same main bodies, four copies on CPU1, manager205 with only compilation-policy changes, no SHA-256 agent 12/12 PASS,20649–29122ms

The policy-only control replaces -XX:CompileThresholdScaling=5 with -XX:TieredStopAtLevel=1; manager, production, bodies, heap128m, CPU count, assertions and deadlines stay the same. This isolates execution policy from manager207's additional native SHA-256 test agent. Full configurations and original XML are in execution-policy-controls.json and six associated archives.

Smallest supported change: align the remote executor's test-JVM compilation policy with the current project's C1 policy. FileDrop's scripts/test.bash already pins kompile-cli0.0.124, whose manager207 uses C1. The requested placement of a fix in FileDrop application code is therefore refuted for this demonstrated condition: no FileDrop source change targets the observed cause, and no speculative application PR was created. A runner-policy change belongs separately from the dependency PR, at the executor that still launches manager205/C2. This report proposes that change; it does not claim an upstream PR, deploy or remote verification occurred.

Additional controls and limits

The original-main control is ff0419734894be6bf1488ed3b7ba39096b96ad46. Its src/src-client and Embedded0.1.27 match the PR exactly; only transport build pins/version differ. Two CPU1 batches per side each fail8/8 first attempts. Older transport nevertheless gets further through reads/races; this preserves the possibility of additional upgrade latency. These outer CLI launchers are also pinned to CPU1, so their timings are not mixed into the primary CPU0 comparison. Artifacts and configuration are in transport-controls.json and control-transport-*.tar.gz.

The four copies in each batch are correlated. Wrapper launch times vary; launch-spread.json records them and retains all main passes. Main batch7's successful maximum test launches several seconds ahead of the other bodies. All observations are retained; no outcome-based exclusions or reclassification as setup failures occurred. Separate controls used CPU1 while the primary bodies usedCPU0; some controls shared main's build cache, which can affect preparation/launch spacing. This is another reason not to overstate the precision of per-call differences or claim equality of performance from nearly saturated failure rates.

One extra PR transport control stopped before test execution when kotlin.directory refused the kompile:build-kotlin-jvm:0.0.23 POM connection. Full setup XML and stacks are retained in control-transport-pr-02-setup-failure.tar.gz. A bounded HTTP check returned200 before that control was repeated; its eight executed first attempts above exclude the setup failure. This friction is recorded here; reportchallenge CLI was not invoked because its automatic merge would violate the brief's no-merge rule.

Durable state and brief audit

Evidence branch and all partial work needed for reproduction: https://github.com/CodexCoder21Organization/FiledropServiceServer/tree/wip/hd22-L178-filedrop at1c0c9df9b0a98d00d3eeee38989bbe7635d89258. No additional PR, published artifact or deployed code was produced. All source/control scripts are in measurement-tools.tar.gz; all original test results, profiles, scheduler samples and argument records are in measurement archives; hashes are in sha256.json. Raw caches/build jars are excluded. Experimental baseline fixture edits are reconstructable by copying the two canonical test files from this branch onto the recorded main commit; production stays untouched.

Brief states: fresh checkout/context DONE; eight matched probes each DONE; phase/timing/count report DONE; regression-versus-existing-condition verdict DONE; mechanism and smallest proposed change DONE, with application-fix location refuted by controls and the already-current launcher; evidence push/ls-remote verification and handoff update DONE. Dedicated test/comparison and adversarial analysis reviews are recorded in review-audit.json, including fixture hashes, runtime mediation, unchanged workload/budgets, retry accounting, expected failed-commit completion, censoring, launch skew and performance limits.

All owned measurement, test, profiler, sampler and wait processes have exited. No timers remain. One Codex session performed the work; no delegates or other model sessions were started. Usage import is deliberately skipped because the inherited parent transcript would attribute unrelated work to this lane.

Remaining for the broader handoff: verify the actual remote executor's launch policy and align it with the proven C1 policy in a separate runner change; obtain fresh authorization before any future remote execution; separately decide whether the observed extra PR transport latency needs a component-by-component investigation. Do not invent a FileDrop timeout/pacing/retry workaround. Do not merge or enqueue the dependency PR without explicit authorization. Historical handoff content follows; the completed comparison above supersedes its pending local-measurement steps.

L178 comparison checkpoint — 2026-10-26 20:50 UTC

The local-only comparison continues. Completed first-attempt counts so far: current main 16/16 FAIL (four batches), PR 12/12 FAIL (three batches). Each batch is four genuine bodies on CPU0, without JFR. All XML, retry stacks, CPU/lock snapshots and scheduler samples are pushed after each batch and ls-remote verified. Evidence branch: https://github.com/CodexCoder21Organization/FiledropServiceServer/tree/wip/hd22-L178-filedrop .

Four serial controls run the same bodies on CPU1, one at a time, with the same manager 0.0.205, default 30000ms limit, payloads, assertions and all 100 races. All four passed first attempt (first pair 7718ms and 8450ms). The first-attempt probe exception explicitly says the test timed out after 30000ms; it is not proof that the named RPC timed out. Before termination, reads and race iterations continue completing. Client main is waiting in FutureTask.get/SandboxedProxyGenerator, while server read handlers wait in PersistentRpcConnection.doSendRequest; idle executor waits have no lock owner. Network connection counts stay bounded and sampled gossip queues are empty near the deadline. These are observed waits, not a proven deadlock.

Separate CPU1 async-profiler CPU controls use collapsed text, not JFR, and are excluded from counts. They show distributed startup/network/sandbox/storage work, with compiler threads about 20–27% of sampled CPU and class loading about 10–15% (inclusive categories overlap). The raw scheduler samples show roughly 6–9 CPU seconds per JVM during about 31 wall seconds in the first batch, and substantial runnable-queue waits. Serial success plus whole-test expiry supports a pre-existing CPU-budget sensitivity. No specific FileDrop production-code defect or safe source fix has yet been established; no speculative patch or PR is claimed.

Main is 50ff7bbe5cc942d96f77a758a50c0f967b422381 (Embedded 0.1.31); PR production is c3c1c48e8d64dd6fbd3a1a3bc995682f3287fe39 (Embedded 0.1.27). Both target scripts are byte-identical. An additional transport control on CPU1 compares original main ff0419734894be6bf1488ed3b7ba39096b96ad46 against the PR: those versions have identical src/src-client and Embedded 0.1.27, differing only in build transport pins/version. Those controls are not included in the primary CPU0 counts and are still running.

PR https://github.com/CodexCoder21Organization/FiledropServiceServer/pull/39 was rechecked at 20:49 UTC: OPEN, unmerged, same c3c1c48 head, bld-build SUCCESS, mergeStateStatus UNSTABLE; remote checks are informational. No remote build service calls, merge/enqueue, deployment, deadline increase, iteration cut, payload reduction, reflection, mocks, or other model sessions occurred. No notes files were added to repos. Raw evidence archives are explicitly requested by the current brief and are preserved under evidence/L178.

Remaining: finish eight CPU0 batches per version, finish transport controls, extract per-run phases/timings and all retry stacks, report verdict and limits, and update this handoff. The inherited remote-admission blocker below does not block this local task. Prior history follows.

L178 matched one-CPU comparison — running

Written 2026-10-26 20:32 UTC. L178 is actively comparing eight no-JFR batches per version, four genuine bodies per batch on CPU0. No remote build is used in this task. No merge, enqueue, deploy, deadline increase, payload reduction, or assertion change.

Current verified inputs: PR production is exactly c3c1c48e8d64dd6fbd3a1a3bc995682f3287fe39; probe source is 4919ed78751b0cd7a3e1eba2502ab39a8673c825. Current main is 50ff7bbe5cc942d96f77a758a50c0f967b422381 (Embedded 0.1.31), so it differs from earlier original-main controls (Embedded 0.1.27). Main src/build.kts remain untouched. Both test scripts are byte-identical on the two versions, retaining Jimfs and 100 races; SHA256 values are in the manifest.

Evidence branch: https://github.com/CodexCoder21Organization/FiledropServiceServer/tree/wip/hd22-L178-filedrop . Initial manifest pushed and ls-remote verified at https://github.com/CodexCoder21Organization/FiledropServiceServer/commit/85a35e6b30f0ee8f74e2982bda12c7837e9a187c . The owner's explicit request to push evidence authorizes raw measurement archives here; no notes files are added. Every batch will checkpoint XML, complete retry stacks, phase traces and process-affinity records as a compressed data archive.

Plan: verify inputs (done); execute alternating PR/main batches (running, first warmup in progress); extract first attempts and phase timings; compare deadline CPU/lock/queue stacks; establish a mechanism and smallest justified fix; update this handoff. No causal conclusion yet. No other model sessions or subagents.

Historical handoff follows, including its earlier remote-admission blocker. That remote blocker does not block the current local-only comparison.

Compare post-upload full-suite failures once remote admission recovers

Written 2026-10-26 20:25 UTC by L175. BLOCKED on remote admission; investigation incomplete. Do not archive as complete.

RE-VERIFY: https://github.com/CodexCoder21Organization/FiledropServiceServer/pull/39 is OPEN atc3c1c48e8d64dd6fbd3a1a3bc995682f3287fe39, unmerged, bld-buildSUCCESS, mergeStateStatusUNKNOWN. Use fresh gh pr view and git ls-remote before acting. No production/library fix, merge/enqueue/deploy or publication occurred. No owned waits/test processes remain. The evidence below describes a local constrained reproducer; the requested remote full-suite main/PR comparison is still unexecuted.

Decisions in force

The owner's L175 authorization supersedes L172's pending permission question: “You are authorized to run up to TWO instrumented remote full suites: one on the PR head and one on origin/main with the same instrumentation (or the closest equivalent tests on main), to establish whether main fails the same tests the same way in the full suite.” Both executions remain unused. Every L175 remote command ended at the health preflight before submission; none returned a run ID. Never resubmit an accepted run without inspecting it first.

Owner rules, unchanged: no reflection, mocks, timeout increases, iteration/payload reductions or weakened/deleted assertions. Use injected Clock. No other model sessions. No merge/enqueue. No production deploy without explicit request. Notes/evidence files stay outside repositories. Targeted runs are --local; full suites are --remote with only the explicitly allowed outage fallback. That local full-suite fallback was not used by L175. Keep every wait bounded and end it before stopping; kill only owned PIDs. Push at milestones and verify ls-remote.

The PR diagnostic diff againstc3c1c48 contains exactly two test scripts and scripts/probe-post-upload.py. No changes to src,src-client,build.kts,README or build/test launch scripts. Both target fixtures on the original-main branch are byte-identical to the current PR diagnostic fixtures. Original main had no production test and its maximum fixture had one race/FakeFileSystem; matching PR's100race/Jimfs fixture is deliberate. Baseline failures therefore show that the upgraded dependencies are not necessary for this constrained deadline condition, not that native old-main tests were already failing or that the remote regression premise is refuted.

Main advanced during L175 through https://github.com/CodexCoder21Organization/FiledropServiceServer/pull/38, changing Embedded0.1.27 to0.1.31, creation handling and86files. A PR diagnostic rebase conflicted in README and was aborted to preserve the explicitly requested c3 snapshot. The newmain replay was preserved separately and the controlled baseline restored. Do not mix its dependency/test set into the original73test comparison. Before new builds, account for this pinned-experiment exception to generic latest-main rebasing: rebasing would replace the requested production baseline. Newmain's replay needs fixtures refreshed from the latest diagnostic branch and tests run if chosen as an additional control.

Final L175 status

2026-10-26 20:25 UTC — BLOCKED. Original request: establish why FileDrop's production-large-reply and maximum-chunk tests fail after upload in the remote full suite, compare PR versus main, reproduce the mechanism locally and fix FileDrop or report the exact upstream cause.

Remote full-suite comparison is not executed. Four PR and three main-side admission commands all failed in the health preflight with CONCURRENT_HANDLER_LIMIT (TcpServer41695,256handlers); no run ID was returned. Zero L175 full suites were accepted, so both authorized executions remain unused. One main-side preflight used the newly advanced main branch; none reached submission. These are admission failures, not test failures, and there are no remote first-attempt counts to report.

Instrumentation and a repeatable local probe are complete and pushed. Client/server operation events locate the waiting read or race call. Samples record CPU, GC, public connection/peer/queue state and full deadline stacks. The sampler now remains alive through transport cleanup and reports each close, preserving original work, assertions and deadlines.

Matched local evidence: with manager205/C2 and four genuine bodies on CPU0, PR and original-main dependencies each fail4/4first attempts and12/12including retries withJFR. All uploads complete. PR production first attempts wait in read iteration3; maximum has completed the4MiB download and reaches race5/6. Main progresses further but also exceeds30s: production reaches read11, maximum race47/23. WithoutJFR, the checked-in PR probe fails3/4first attempts (two maximum, one production); retries pass as other bodies finish. This confirms a constrained deadline reproducer while showing profiling overhead matters. Main originally lacked the production fixture and had an older maximum fixture: these are matched PR fixtures on baseline dependencies, not evidence that native main's old tests already failed. No exact causal mechanism or upstream defect line is established; sampled waiting lines are not called causes.

Final targeted validation after cleanup tracing: PR2/2first passes,13317/13357ms; baseline2/2first passes,11654/11390ms; no XML histories. Dedicated self-review checked unchanged12/24assertion counts,16reads,100races, all deadlines/payloads, public diagnostics only, sampler ownership and finally cleanup. Script syntax/help, generated wrapper and its real four-body execution were validated; its final small status change now treats any first failure as a nonzero probe result. No other model sessions were started.

PR https://github.com/CodexCoder21Organization/FiledropServiceServer/pull/39 is freshly OPEN, unmerged, unchanged atc3c1c48e8d64dd6fbd3a1a3bc995682f3287fe39, required bld-buildSUCCESS; mergeStateStatusUNKNOWN. No fix pushed there. All three local repositories are clean, no stashes/unpublished commits, and no owned test/CLI processes or monitor loops remain. No merge, enqueue, publication or deployment.

Handoff: https://www.handoff.wasmserver.com/handoffs/hf-2026-10-26-find-the-remaining-remote-timeout-mechanism-in-filedropserviceserver . It carries attempt tables, distinct full retry error stacks, source/branch links and recovery commands. Pushed heads verified withgit ls-remote: PRdiagnostics4919ed78751b0cd7a3e1eba2502ab39a8673c825; original-main diagnostics59e116096acf476e0bd6508e2c1334e4e3b6b93c; untested replay onto newmain79b73489e77d16f3360b5403bc5cc78b195c94a2.

Delegated work at a glance: none; one session performed all work. No unnecessary holds. No idle landing gates. Owner direction captured: all original prohibitions and the two-suite allowance are recorded in the current handoff. The blocker requires remote build admission to recover, not a user approval. Next, execute the authorized remote pair, compare first attempts and exact waiting operations, then isolate a deterministic causal condition before any fix.

Lessons: distinguish failed admission from executed tests; record post-upload and cleanup boundaries instead of inferring phase from a timeout frame; compare identical workloads and control profiling overhead before attributing a regression.

Additional no-JFR control and cleanup tracing

The standalone script was actually executed from3446c95 withoutJFR. Probe1production PASS29793ms first. Probe2maximum FAIL32136/32250 thenPASS19510ms. Probe3production FAIL31693 thenPASS24549ms. Probe4maximum FAIL32133/32188 thenPASS19389ms. Thus first1/4PASS,3/4FAIL;9attempts total,5failures. Maxfirstprobe2 upload10161ms, completed race38 before expiry; retry2 reaches race89. The failures remain post-upload. Successes after other bodies finish support cumulative work under contention, but do not prove a named implementation defect. The JFR4/4 and no-JFR3/4 populations are reported separately; do not claim a deterministic100percent reproducer. The checked-in script's final status logic explicitly reports any first failure as a nonzero result even when the underlying runner accepts a retry.

Cleanup tracing was extended after two baseline third attempts finished all16reads near the body deadline and entered cleanup. The current sampler covers close-filedrop, unregister, close-resolver/close-client/close-server, storage and manager closes before it is stopped/joined in its outerfinally. Current-head targeted first passes are listed in the status report; no histories. Existing assertion counts12/24 and loops16/100 are unchanged. All latest code is pushed. No code fix has been guessed.

Recovery and remaining work

 1. Remote admission must recover: all seven L175 preflights failed health with CONCURRENT_HANDLER_LIMIT, TcpServer41695 at256handlers. Latest requests req-6681/req-6708 returned before submission. No L175 run to attach exists. Two manual full executions remain authorized. Submit only after admission works, using scripts/test.bash --remote --test . --log <outside-repo-file>; track the returned run, never resubmit because it queues or the CLI returnsPENDING. Use bounded build-watchman--run once a run ID exists.
 2. Run the matched instrumented PR and main controls and extract XML first attempts plus every retry stack. State exactly which main snapshot is selected because main advanced substantially mid-task. Current diagnostic fixtures reflect the user's original requested workload. Do not compare73andnewnative test populations as if identical.
 3. Use the local probe: python3 scripts/probe-post-upload.py --output /tmp/filedrop-post-upload-probe --cpu 0 [--jfr]. Its source lives on the PR diagnostic branch; copy only that script to the baseline's scripts/ when probing that branch. It warms both targets and executes two copies of each with child-only affinity and bounded timeouts. Recheck per-child JSON and/proc/<pid>/status while running. Deep JFR export needs jfr print --json --stack-depth128 --events jdk.ExecutionSample,jdk.NativeMethodSample <file>. Exclude incomplete recordings and native epoll waits from CPU claims.
 4. Identify the causal condition from the remote comparison plus local evidence. Current facts locate read/race/cleanup phases and expose cumulative progress; they do not identify one causal upstream source line. A wait at SandboxedProxyGenerator.kt1585/UrlResolver.kt33082 is not a cause. Force the eventual condition deterministically before a fix. Fix FileDrop only if it owns that cause; otherwise report the exact proven upstream line and stop as requested. Do not change upstream libraries or hide the behavior with deadlines/pacing/retries.
 5. If a fix is produced, push to the existing PR branch only after checking it is stillOPEN; watch required bld-build to completion, with no merge/enqueue. No causal fix was produced by L175 and no bld-build rerun was requested.

HardwareControlFabric works here despite the generic certificate paths being absent: use /home/leslie/.config/hardware-control-fabric/client_cert.pem, fabric_key.pkcs8, server_cert.pem with cli0.2.6. Ping and read-file succeeded. Coordinator records are /root/buildtest-data/runs/
/run.json,test-events.jsonl,test-results.json,build.log. Priorcc1a8389 is now terminalFAILED69passed/4failed/73total, completedAt1793044559621; original62/73first remains historical. No SSH/restarts or remote writes were used. The handoff web page returned503; handoff-cli works. Infrastructure friction is recorded here because reportchallenge-cli automatically merges/enqueues, forbidden in this task.

Raw XML, consoles, JFR and local scripts remain under /tmp/L175-* and may be wiped; do not claim they are remotely archived. Essential attempt tables, distinct full error stacks and reproducible code are durable in this body and the pushed branches. No notes or artifacts are committed in repositories. All three checkouts are clean, with no stashes or unpublished commits. The automatic usage importer again read the inherited parent transcript; its model buckets do not indicate other model sessions started by L175.

L175: compare post-upload timeouts on PR and main

Updated 2026-10-26 20:00 UTC. L175 is RUNNING; the pending L172 permission question is superseded by the owner's L175 authorization: up to TWO instrumented remote full suites, one PR and one main. No remote full suite has yet been submitted by L175. No merge/enqueue/deploy.

Current L175 checkpoint

Fresh workspace clone of FiledropServiceServer, checked out wip/hd22-L172-upload and rebased on current origin/main before changes. Repository AGENTS absent; README read in full. Read supplied handoff and authoritative TESTING.md/PHILOSOPHY.md. The brief overrides their generic timeout-sizing, merge and required-remote-check defaults. PR https://github.com/CodexCoder21Organization/FiledropServiceServer/pull/39 remains OPEN at c3c1c48e8d64dd6fbd3a1a3bc995682f3287fe39; bld-build SUCCESS at initial recheck.

Instrumentation branch: https://github.com/CodexCoder21Organization/FiledropServiceServer/tree/wip/hd22-L175-filedrop . First commit de52955 adds per-operation begin/end/failure events (client reads/ranges, small health workers, maximum-chunk commit/delete races, server handlers), active-call tables, read-only public connection/peer/gossip counters, CPU/GC/thread totals each second and full thread/lock/CPU stacks at 27s then every2s. Existing injected transport Clock drives all diagnostic timing/waits. No reflection/mocks, no assertion/iteration/payload/deadline reduction. Maximum test uses the same SystemClock for protocol and diagnostic timing. Existing upload tracing retained. Targeted local validation is underway; this is diagnostic code, not a causal fix or completed reproducer. No production code changed.

Plan: validate the two instrumented targets locally; use one remote full suite per revision, identical two target fixtures on main with its original production/dependencies; extract XML first attempts and retry stacks; identify the waiting step and mechanism, force the same condition locally using taskset or real concurrent test bodies; fix FileDrop only if proved, otherwise report exact upstream source line. Push each milestone and verify ls-remote. Required bld-build only if a fix is pushed to PR. Never merge/enqueue. Notes/logs stay outside repositories.

A fresh read-only UrlResolver clone is available under this session workspace; exact1337 source was independently retrieved at f899f9856c43f03034e11cf6bad034a60fc33e48. No dependency source changes.

L175 validation and admission update — 20:06 UTC

Remote branch heads verified: PR instrumentation f8610d98e1a91ce8a1007e852fc799a39566ff72; main comparison5119f7c80b7b1e4fa6a0c13c25895e04c749212c. Main is ff0419734894be6bf1488ed3b7ba39096b96ad46 with identical two target fixtures copied from the instrumented PR; original main lacked production and had the older maximum fixture, so this explicitly compares identical target work with original main code/dependencies. Local first-attempt passes: PR production9797ms, maximum8202ms; main production5970ms, maximum8173ms; no XML retry histories. The last instrumentation-only change retains successful trace lines in /tmp because the local runner omits success stdout from XML. No runtime or assertion changes.

Two attempts to begin the PR suite were refused by the health preflight, before submission: Build service RPC 'health' to url://buildtest/ failed with INTERNAL_ERROR: RPC error: CONCURRENT_HANDLER_LIMIT - TcpServer on port41695 is at its concurrent request-handler limit of256; request req-66262 [then req-66822] for method 'health' was not started. Zero L175 full suites have been accepted; both authorized executions remain available. Do not confuse failed admission with executed/failing tests. Do not resubmit any accepted run.

HardwareControlFabric is reachable. Existing local certificates use client_cert.pem, fabric_key.pkcs8 and server_cert.pem (different names from the generic examples). ping succeeds; read-file --remote-input-path /root/buildtest-data/runs/cc1a8389/run.json recovered its terminal state: FAILED,69passed/4failed/73total, completedAt1793044559621. The L172 statement that coordinator finalization was pending is now stale. No SSH, restarts or remote writes were used. The supplied handoff web page still returned503; direct fabric reads are the available evidence path.

Local follow-up in progress: recovered manager205 launcher (137classpath files all verified present) to match remote C2 launcher behavior, warming the two tests before running genuine concurrent bodies on CPU0. No artificial load. These targeted runs do not consume the two full-suite allowances. Admission remains an external blocker for the requested main-versus-PR full remote comparison. No causal fix or exact upstream cause is established. Infrastructure friction is recorded here because reportchallenge-cli automatically merges/enqueues, which this brief forbids.

L175 current progress report

2026-10-26 20:14 UTC — RUNNING. Original request: compare post-upload remote full-suite timeouts on FileDrop's PR and main, identify the mechanism with a local reproducer, and fix FileDrop or report the exact upstream cause.

PR https://github.com/CodexCoder21Organization/FiledropServiceServer/pull/39 is freshly verified OPEN, unmerged at c3c1c48e8d64dd6fbd3a1a3bc995682f3287fe39; required bld-build SUCCESS. No PR fix has been made. Diagnostic tracing records client/server call boundaries, active calls and CPU/GC/connection state. Pre-deadline stacks show the operation waiting when time expires. The probe script runs unchanged genuine tests on one CPU and leaves compiler JVM affinity unchanged.

Progress: PR and matched main each pass both instrumented targets locally on first attempts (PR9797/8202ms; main5970/8173ms). Manager205 C2 warm PR also passes both. Four genuine PR bodies on CPU0 (two production/two maximum) fail4/4first,12/12including retries, every upload completed. Production deadlines occur during large-read iterations3/10/3 and3/9/3; maximum completed its4MiB roundtrip and reached only race indices5/16/4 and6/16/4 before expiry. These are local observations; remote causality is unproven. Main's equivalent constrained probe is running. Deep JFR stacks are available; sampled waits alone are not being called causes.

Remote comparison blocker: three PR health preflight attempts and one main preflight attempt were refused with CONCURRENT_HANDLER_LIMIT (TcpServer41695,256handlers). No suite was accepted and no run ID was returned; the two authorized full executions remain unused. HardwareControlFabric reads work with the available certificate filenames; prior runcc1a8389 is now terminalFAILED69/73after retries. Diagnostic branches are pushed and ls-remote verified: https://github.com/CodexCoder21Organization/FiledropServiceServer/tree/wip/hd22-L175-filedrop and https://github.com/CodexCoder21Organization/FiledropServiceServer/tree/wip/hd22-L175-main-comparison .

Delegated work at a glance: none; all work is in this session. No unnecessary holds. No idle landing gates. Owner direction captured: preserve all deadlines, payloads, loops and assertions; two remote full executions maximum; no merge/enqueue, in the current L175 handoff section.

Next: finish matched main CPU probe, analyze the recorded work and waits, retry admission only before acceptance, then run the authorized remote pair when available and preserve the findings. Actively progressing on local evidence; remote comparison remains blocked on admission.

Lessons: distinguish admission failure from an executed test; record post-upload operation boundaries before attributing an upload timeout; retain deep stacks and distinguish a wait site from its cause.

L175 matched one-CPU probe evidence (original main snapshot)

These are LOCAL targeted probes, not the requested remote full-suite results. Full remote admission still fails before submission. Each probe has two production and two maximum bodies on CPU0, with manager205/C2/CompileThresholdScaling5; compiler JVMs retain normal affinity. Every loop, payload, assertion and deadline is unchanged. PRfirst4/4FAIL and all12attemptsFAIL; original-mainfirst4/4FAIL and all12attemptsFAIL. This proves the constrained deadline failure also exists with baseline dependencies; it does not prove equal remote performance or a particular causal source line.

Production PRprobe1 first timeline: upload ends19349ms; large read0 takes2346ms, read1 takes3671ms, read2 takes3214ms; read3 starts28692ms and is still active at the deadline. Main corresponding first probe uploads14771ms and reaches read11; second main production probe uploads14972ms and also reaches read11. Thus baseline also fails, while PR progresses less; do not report equal speeds. Two main third attempts complete read15 by28823/30171ms and enter cleanup at28852/30183ms, so the former expires in cleanup and the latter is already past the body bound.

Maximum PRprobe2 first upload completes16819ms; 4MiB download returns19555ms (2736ms); last completed race5 at29446ms. PRprobe4 first upload16607ms and reaches race6. Mainprobe2 first upload5322ms and download1386ms, reaches race47; mainprobe4 first upload11326ms/download2976ms, reaches race23. Both remain far short of100 races at the body deadline, with continued progress rather than one unchanged blocked iteration.

At PRproduction probe1 first sample30635ms: process CPU9340ms, GC1160ms,187live/228startedthreads. Provider/client/storage public active connection counts2/3/3 at29466ms; queued gossip0 on all3. Main waits on SandboxInvocationTask (SandboxedProxyGenerator.kt1585); the active production handler waits on a nested storage RPC response (UrlResolver.kt33082). Those are wait sites, not a proven cause. A network worker is running response-write completion through RpcServerMessageHandler.adjustPendingRpcRequests -> RpcRequestPermit.releaseByResponse -> AwaitedResponseOutbox.completeResponseWrite -> MuxChannel.doWrite. Frame writers and many invocation workers are idle in other samples. No evidence yet establishes a stream-window stall, deadlock, leaked connections or a single causal hotspot.

Deep JFR export explicitly uses --stack-depth128; retained samples do contain deeper than5frames. PRmaximum first recording has368ExecutionSample events; a production retry recording has287. Samples span class loading, SJVM interpretation, frame processing, JSON, payload encoding and noise transport. No one sampled frame has been promoted to a mechanism. One first production JFR is empty and another is truncated at4194304bytes after timeout termination; exclude them. Later valid recordings and complete captured thread dumps remain local. RawJFR is not claimed durably uploaded.

Reproducer source is pushed at https://github.com/CodexCoder21Organization/FiledropServiceServer/blob/3446c95d2ef078f5dd444610f7d5237f3b02ea67/scripts/probe-post-upload.py . It resolvesCLI0.0.124 and replaces ONLY manager207JAR with205JAR (verified against the recovered launcher); warms both tests, starts two copies of each with child-only taskset, optional JFR128, bounded timeout cleanup, and prints every attempt result fromXML. Usage: python3 scripts/probe-post-upload.py --output /tmp/filedrop-post-upload-probe --cpu 0 --jfr. It is a diagnostic reproducer of constrained deadlines, not yet a deterministic reproducer of a named upstream defect. An additional execution without JFR is validating the checked-in script itself.

Main changed during L175

After the probes, origin/main advanced fromff041973 to50ff7bbf (resolve exact SHA via git). https://github.com/CodexCoder21Organization/FiledropServiceServer/pull/38 introduced unrelated production creation handling, Embedded0.1.31 and many tests. Rebasing the PR diagnostic history conflicts in README and would change the requested c3c1c48 production baseline. That rebase was aborted: PR instrumentation remains3446c95 and original-main comparison remains5119f7c. A successful replay of the two main diagnostic commits onto newmain is preserved separately at https://github.com/CodexCoder21Organization/FiledropServiceServer/tree/wip/hd22-L175-main-after-creation-update (79b73489e77d16f3360b5403bc5cc78b195c94a2); it has NOT executed tests. Its one remote attempt also failed health admission. Do not mix its Embedded version/test count with the original controlled comparison. No existing PR branch was changed.

Full distinct local retry error stacks

Every distinct full error below is retained once, with all attempt references; raw output/dumps are local /tmp/L175-{pr,main}-cpu0-<probe>-attempt-<n>.console and .stack, which may be wiped. The table and code above plus these error strings are the durable minimum.

Find the remaining initial-upload timeout after snapshot-38 validation

Updated 2026-10-26 19:52 UTC by L172. Blocked pending the owner’s additional-run decision; mechanism remains unproven.

RE-VERIFY: https://github.com/CodexCoder21Organization/FiledropServiceServer/pull/39 remains OPEN at c3c1c48e8d64dd6fbd3a1a3bc995682f3287fe39, required bld-build SUCCESS. Recheck with gh pr view <full URL> --json state, headRefOid,mergedAt,statusCheckRollup, and git ls-remote for every branch below. Read authoritative coordinator records for run cc1a8389 before relying on web status. No merge, enqueue, publication or deployment occurred.

Mission and decisions in force

The L172 request is: re-pin every jvm-libp2p reference/expectation from snapshot-37 to snapshot-38; prove production JAR classes; run large-reply tests five times locally and push; find why the initial upload times out under full remote load with honest CPU constraints and main/PR comparisons; obtain a >=50% reproducer before any fix; fix FileDrop only or report an exact UrlResolver/UrlProtocol cause with a pushed minimal reproducer and stop; full remote suite once, honest first-attempt counts; update the existing PR and watch bld-build. Do not merge or enqueue.

Owner's rules remain: no reflection, no mocks, no timeout increases, no iteration cuts, no weakening/deleting assertions; use injected Clock; do the work in this session with no other model sessions; bounded tracked waits stopped before finishing; kill only owned processes by PID; no notes files in repositories; targeted tests --local; full suites --remote, with the specified local lock fallback only if remote service is down; push each milestone and verify ls-remote. Production deployment is not authorized. The prompt's no-skill-file preference was superseded by higher-priority session instructions; this did not authorize extra implementation scope.

One scope question is pending: “Local controls rule out bulk short-pull amplification, but I have not reproduced the initial-upload failure reliably. May I submit one additional remote full suite from the tested instrumentation branch after service admission recovers? Your brief says ‘Full suite remotely once’; the one authorized run is already accepted as cc1a8389, so this would extend that limit.” Recommended: allow one instrumented run; alternative: keep the one-run limit. No answer has been received. Do not submit another full suite without that approval. Continue collecting the already accepted run; its execution is authorized independently.

Current state — incomplete mechanism

The snapshot-38 change is complete. Upload instrumentation and matched comparisons are complete. The bulk short-pull explanation is refuted by measured work counts for this upload. The original timeout mechanism, a reliable initial-upload reproducer, and a causal fix remain unproven. Do not report the whole task DONE. There is no guessed FileDrop fix and no changed upstream source.

The manual full suite cc1a8389 was submitted exactly once from d46f330a1e91026750857c165d3357d27513c485. Current PR head differs only in one README sentence; all code, dependencies and tests are identical. It queued for over30min; the CLI returned PENDING/exit2 after its internal1800000ms wait, without tests at that moment. It later entered TESTING. Latest retained journal snapshot: 62/73 first successes,11 first failures,94 attempt completions; production fails all3 attempts32655/34184/50006ms. The retained xml_results event has94 attempt rows for73 distinct tests:62 pass on the first attempt and69 pass on at least one attempt. Independently retrieved test-results.json has73 canonical rows,69 passed/4 failed. run.json now also reports69 passed/4 failed, but remains TESTING with completedAt=0; execution outcomes are complete while the coordinator verdict has not finalized. The already accepted run may be attached read-only: scripts/test.bash --remote --attach cc1a8389 --log <file> — no new submission.

Current-head informational CI 3e8182fb is OUTPACED with0 tests. Earlier pin-push CI329aed56 was SUPERSEDED; its journal has61/73 first successes,12 first failures,88 attempt completions. At supersession canonical counters were69 successes/2 failures out of73, incomplete rather than a final pass count. Required bld-build is independent and green73/73 first attempts.

What was found and done

 1. Fresh cloned FileDrop, read README fully; AGENTS absent. Read full TESTING.md and PHILOSOPHY.md from DocumentationRepository and the provided handoff. Read exact1337 resolver sources at f899f9856c43f03034e11cf6bad034a60fc33e48; source-only UrlResolver clone remains unchanged. Used a separate fresh main clone for matching fixtures and another fresh checkout for manual validation. No other models were invoked.
 2. Pin changed in build.kts/README, including a later case-insensitive README correction. No snapshot-37 reference remains in tracked current-head files. Production build SHA256 7514ee1a46f985d1597537d6a3cc254dea6387a7701c756d7a8ce1d77af60487, identical after the README correction. Published s38 dependency SHA256 1ea6b524b036651136937376964fe0948020a7d503f4c927481d5258e340ebad. All 902/902 runtime classes match byte-for-byte, zero missing/different.
 3. Five local repetitions of production large reply, companion large reply, maximum chunk and range boundaries: 20/20 first attempts, no XML histories. Required current-head https://github.com/CodexCoder21Organization/FiledropServiceServer/actions/runs/40381180075 retained XML: 73/73 first attempts, no histories. Earlier pin-head bld-build also73/73. Two bounded watchman0.0.21 PR watches exitedGREEN. No merge/enqueue.
 4. WIP adds events using existing transportClock: before client/open/createDrop; initial upload entry/exit with full-call round trip; storage entry/exit with handlerMs (not wire RTT); real InputStream read requested/received bytes and duration;1s samples of accepted storage bytes, live/started threads, GC count/time and process CPU. FilterInputStream wraps real sources and delegates available/read/close; there are no mocks. Sampler is owned and stopped in finally. All14 original assertion/repeat lines match the PR exactly, including16 reads and every original deadline. Successful runs retain /tmp/L172-upload-*.log; failures include events in XML. Logs are outside repositories.
 5. Final paired comparison: two full production bodies share one CPU, compiler JVMs keep normal affinity. Same content1333487 bytes. Main body20755ms first pass; PR21817ms first pass. Main upload1477ms / CPU710ms / GC118ms; PR1770ms / CPU780ms / GC135ms. Both start19 new platform threads during upload. Each sends the1777984-byte encoded payload in one v2_writeChunk, plus metadata,1780668 storage bytes total. Payload handler duration main27ms, PR15ms. Relative payload-accepted times +618/+648ms; final metadata +1420/+1727ms. Whole-call input throughput about0.903/0.753MB/s. Both make 21 metadata pulls totaling3334bytes during upload. The bulk content is not pulled in tiny pieces.
 6. Earlier isolated one-core source probes: main1005ms /CPU800ms /GC28ms upload, PR843ms /CPU760ms /GC67ms. During the16 later large reads, main makes160 source reads, PR176: one extra8192-byte pull per large reply. Exact size choice is https://github.com/CodexCoder21Organization/UrlResolver/blob/f899f9856c43f03034e11cf6bad034a60fc33e48/src/foundation/url/resolver/StreamAwareServiceHandler.kt#L560 . This is a measured later-read difference, not a demonstrated initial-upload cause.
 7. Four genuine targeted bodies on CPUs0,1 (no artificial load): PR round1 all4 first passes, production12855ms/max13846/range6734/companion7670; matching main all4 first passes, production16367/max17349/range9287/companion8402; PR round2 all4 first passes, production17428/max16800/range11010/companion10096. Baseline copies the identical PR fixtures, including100 maximum-test races; do not compare its timings with native main's older one-race fixture.
 8. One earlier one-core PR run failed all3 attempts33733/32711/34139ms. Uploads completed4149/2959ms on attempts1/2; those fail later during downloads. Attempt3 reaches upload after26112ms setup and expires there. This is not >=50% first-attempt initial-upload reproduction.
 9. Recovered the prior manager205 launcher, verified its classpath files exist, copied it outside repositories. Manager205 isolated warm run passes3/3 first: range5147ms, production8280ms, maximum10507ms. An initial four-test/one-core discovery attempt spent its360s outer deadline in preparation for3 targets; only companion executes/passes27000ms. Exclude those3 preparation expirations from test counts. A separate relative-workspace warm command ran0 tests and is excluded; absolute workspace fixes selection.
 10. Stronger controlled experiment:4 full production bodies, manager205, only child JVMs pinned to CPU0, parent compilers normal affinity; verified child Cpus_allowed_list0 and CompileThresholdScaling5. All4 first attempts fail and all12 total attempts fail, but all12 uploads complete before the later download timeouts (first upload rounds3042–3296ms, setup roughly12.7–13.1s). This is a reliable wrong-phase reproducer, not evidence for an upload fix. No worker count/iteration/deadline was changed in the test. This does not justify shipping a patch.
 11. Bounded, read-only worker profiling used only this session's runs. Fabric cert/key/CA are absent; HTTP WUI probes return502/503, so coordinator-mediated SSH was the available fallback. Earlier run329 profiles on workers134.199.239.50 and64.23.236.142 show one retry still inside createDrop at32s, before upload. Manual cc worker64.23.230.158 has observed PIDs19449/21134; first profile main is in getOrCreateServerHost lock at11.38s, bytecode fetch at17.15s, createDrop at21.91/26.64s, and uploadTextFile at31.35s. First call therefore starts with little of the whole30s body budget left. These are phase/wait-site observations, not an end-to-end cause.
 12. Profiling limitation: remote JFR recordings have only5 frames per stack, even when truncated=false. Inclusive frame counts cannot rule out deeper callers. In particular, withdraw the earlier inference that3/380 visible metadata-verification frames refutes that cost; shallow stacks do not support that conclusion. Full jcmd traces show Netty AdaptiveByteBufAllocator class loading while EagerJoin holds the host-creation lock. A future approved profile should configure deeper JFR stacks before recording; no such deeper profile has yet captured a production attempt. Root cause remains unproven.
 13. PR description was rewritten around the final dependency update and the incomplete investigation, with proof/counts, measured upload timeline, diagnostic branches and remote run identities. Update it again when cc1a8389 becomes terminal. All code milestones were pushed and verified with ls-remote. Four touched checkouts are clean, no stashes or unpublished commits. No notes/logs/JFR/build outputs were committed.

Final L172 checkpoint and brief audit

Snapshot-38 pin/proof/local repeats/push: DONE,902/902 class bytes,20/20 first attempts, current PR head c3c1c48e8d64dd6fbd3a1a3bc995682f3287fe39. Main/PR upload instrumentation and honest CPU controls: DONE, measurements above. Bulk short-pull amplification of initial upload: REFUTED for the measured path (one payload write; identical21 metadata pulls). Actual upload timeout mechanism, >=50% same-phase reproducer and causal fix or exact upstream causal line: NOT ESTABLISHED, still required. The pushed WIP is diagnostic instrumentation, not a proved minimal bug reproducer. The requested single manual remote full suite: EXECUTED,62/73 first;69/73 after retries, four fail all attempts. Coordinator still TESTING/completedAt0 despite canonical73 results. Required bld-build: DONE,73/73 first; bounded watch exitedGREEN. PR description: updated with these results. No merge/enqueue.

The four final remote failures are testProductionLargeReplyWithConcurrentSmallCalls (32655/34184/50006ms), testE2eSjvmMaximumChunkRoundTrip (33280/32980/50725ms), testStressColdStartPublicArrival (20828/37436/15154ms), and testE2eSjvmColdStartInitializesAfterProtocolProbe (20381/30301/15149ms). First counts were independently computed from the retained xml_results attempt records, then canonical rows were checked separately. Do not count94 attempt rows as94 tests.

All three remote branch heads were verified with git ls-remote at this checkpoint; PR remains OPEN/unmerged. All touched checkouts are clean, with no stashes or unpublished commits. No own long waits, test processes or profiling helpers remain. No hosted worker was killed. Pending question: allow one additional instrumented full suite from f45c11a after admission recovers, or retain the explicit one-suite limit. No extra submission was made. The handoff remains incomplete and must not be archived as complete.

No deployment/publication occurred; no deployed-but-unmerged code was created. UrlResolver source clone is unchanged. Prior guard branch and earlier evidence are retained in the L154 appendix below; do not treat its old status snapshots as current.

## Next steps and recovery

1. Finish reading **the existing** https://buildtest.kotlin.build/run?id=cc1a8389; do not resubmit it. Get canonical final totals and first-attempt XML/journal counts separately. Some manual production attempts were profiled; note that diagnostic overhead when interpreting times. First counts62/73 and canonical retry outcomes69/73 are now independently confirmed; coordinator status remains TESTING.
2. Respect the pending one-run-limit question. If approved, run **one** further full suite from f45c11a's instrumentation after admission recovers. Keep all assertions/work/budgets; capture initial upload timestamps, metadata vs payload boundaries, CPU/GC and deeper thread/JFR stacks inside that run. If not approved, do not guess a fix or claim the root task complete.
3. Only after >=50% **initial-upload** reproduction and a verified mechanism, fix this repository at its cause. If the cause is UrlResolver/UrlProtocol, record the exact causal source line and a minimal public-API reproducer on the requested WIP branch, then stop without changing those libraries. The current WIP is instrumentation, not that proven reproducer.
4. Read-only authoritative records: `/root/buildtest-data/runs/
/run.json`, `test-events.jsonl`, `test-results.json`, `build.log` on coordinator198.199.106.165. Bounded fallback: `timeout --signal=TERM --kill-after=5s 30 ssh -o BatchMode=yes -o ConnectTimeout=8 -p23 root@198.199.106.165 'cat /root/buildtest-data/runs/cc1a8389/run.json'`. Never print whole event output/chunks; select scalar name/attempt/status/duration/CPU/runqueue fields. Full errors below are extracted error strings, not giant thread dumps.
5. Own worker discovery is run.json droplets[].ip/shardIndex. Coordinator-mediated worker read: `timeout 30 ssh -p23 root@198.199.106.165 "ssh ... root@<own-worker-IP> '<read-only command>'"`. Only profile this run's test PIDs, discovered by BootstrapRunner args and exact function name. Do not kill unrelated processes. Worker lifetime is temporary; old PIDs/IPs must be rediscovered.
6. Required watcher command remains `timeout --signal=TERM --kill-after=15s 3600 coursier launch buildwatchman:build-watchman:0.0.21 -r https://kotlin.directory -- --repo CodexCoder21Organization/FiledropServiceServer --pr 39`, without --to-merged. Both L172 PR watches already exitedGREEN. The raw-run watcher for cc1a8389 reached its hard deadline19:40UTC and exited124 (watchman RESULT INTERRUPTED130). WUI failures made it blind; bounded coordinator reads supplied the results. All owned watchers and profiling helpers have stopped.

Local evidence root /tmp/l172-evidence contains XML, measured text, full errors, hashes, bounded helper scripts and JFR. Essential measurements/errors and all code are preserved here/on the branches. Raw JFR is deliberately not published because it may contain process metadata; do not claim a durable archive URL. The generic original request/prohibitions and earlier chain follow.

Owner directions, 2026-10-26, unchanged from the original L154 brief:

No reflection, no mocks, no timeout increases, no iteration cuts, no weakening or deleting assertions. Use the injected Clock. Do not read skill files. Keep tool output small (print at most ~80 lines at a time). Push after the first commit and each milestone and verify with git ls-remote (the machine's /tmp is wiped without warning). Do the work yourself; no other model sessions. Wait loops need a hard deadline and must be killed before you finish. Kill processes only by PID and only ones your own runs started. No notes files in repos. Run full suites remotely: scripts/test.bash --remote --test . --log <file> (never killed by local memory, no local lock queue); use the local lock flock /tmp/claude-501/hd22-suite.lock ... --local only if the remote service is down, and report how long you waited. Targeted runs stay --local; read first-attempt counts from the XML (the runner retries 3x; any retry is a finding with its stack). Never merge or enqueue. kotlin.build (remote) is informational (the shared build host is unhealthy); the required check is bld-build.

Find the mechanism with evidence (thread dumps / timing inside the run, where the time goes): e.g. the 8 KiB short-pull behaviour of 0.0.1337 multiplying round trips for large reads, a lock or serialization in the new resolver, or a test doing far more work than needed. Fix it at its cause in filedrop (or, if the cause is inside UrlResolver/UrlProtocol, report the exact line and stop — do not change those libraries). Keep every assertion, iteration and deadline.

The explicit main-versus-head remote comparison and final remote validation override the otherwise-local targeted-run rule for those requested measurements. No other model session was started. No production deployment is authorized. Higher-priority session instructions required applicable skills despite the quoted owner instruction; this does not authorize extra implementation scope. Tests and philosophy documents were read fully; their remote-required and new-timeout-sizing defaults are superseded by this brief's informational-check and no-increase rules.

Mission summary

Original ask: “L154: find why FiledropServiceServer PR 39 times out on the remote build service.” Compare exactly the maximum-chunk, production-large-reply and range-boundary scenarios remotely twice each on main and original head; diagnose with evidence; fix only filedrop or stop with exact upstream lines; push PR branch, validate targeted and full remote first attempts, update PR description and watch required bld-build. No merge.

The dependency update uses resolver0.0.1337/protocol0.0.1434/libp2p snapshot37; resolver POM snapshot32 truncates large replies. The original PR head is2d802f612cdde8c560b4cd06394b11e7a3d43f6d; main baseline isff0419734894be6bf1488ed3b7ba39096b96ad46.

Status: incomplete. A real test inefficiency was reproduced and fixed, but it does not explain the full remote timeouts. Do not report the original task fixed. Required bld-build is green73/73 first attempts. Full remote final157b908 is65/73 first attempts,68/73 after retries. New live remote profiling is blocked by access failures; retained coordinator records are readable over bounded SSH.

What was found and done

 1. Fresh cloned FileDrop, read README in full, AGENTS absent, read reviewer L150-review.md. Baseline main lacked the new production test: copied exact original PR test for comparison, then removed. Main maximum fixture had one race and FakeFileSystem; original PR has100 races and Jimfs. This is not a dependency-only maximum comparison.
 2. Completed12actual remote executions, two per revision/scenario. Main first passes5/6, original PR5/6, with different failure classes. The initial main command blocked648s, ran zero test bodies, was stopped by its owned timeout PID, and was replaced by a valid run. A final coordinator lookup found its CANCELED run record a7b3d810, which the client had not returned; every recorded body duration is0. It remains excluded from the12executed comparisons. Selected remote runs record one attempt, not3; do not invent retries. Passing XML retained. Failed CLI produces no XML, so failure counts/stacks come from authoritative test events/xml_results.
Scenario main first-attempt seconds original PR first-attempt seconds
maximum 12.608 pass;10.239 fail old filesystem open-target race 27.374 pass;27.768 pass
production 17.229 pass;22.878 pass 27.052 pass;32.500 fail30s body budget
range 8.832 pass;7.675 pass 8.806 pass;13.894 pass

Main fixture failure https://buildtest.kotlin.build/run?id=515b7c3f; PR production timeout https://buildtest.kotlin.build/run?id=65209bfe. Other comparison run IDs and raw measurements are in the evidence archive.

 1. Identified one avoidable cost in both large-reply tests: two small-call workers used UrlProtocol2.sendRpcRequest for each iteration, creating/closing a transport stream each time. Resolver1337 exact source f899f9856c43f03034e11cf6bad034a60fc33e48 src/foundation/url/resolver/UrlResolver.kt:14732 opensPersistentRpcConnection;14764 closes its use; public docs14335 recommend reuse for repeated calls. This is test usage, not a proven library bug.
 2. JFR unchanged production test:3298platform thread starts,1003filedrop reader starts,1004frame-writer starts. Reuse:290total,3readers,4writers. Each worker now owns one persistent connection in use and sends every existing health/status iteration over it. Public ConnectionAwareServiceHandler observes connectionId and asserts exactly2connections. Old production guard fails3/3 with1017/893/762 IDs; companion guard fails3/3 with77/70/71. No mocks/reflection/internal API.
 3. Connection ownership invariants: the worker creates/owns/closes its connection; stop prevents new requests; unchanged shutdownNow and awaitTermination cleanup workers before resolvers. Every prior assertion remains, production12→13assertions and companion6→7; repeat16 unchanged; companionTimeout120 unchanged; maximum/range byte-for-byte unchanged. Added guard fails old code before the fix and passes fixed code. Snapshot32 negative control still fails both tests all 3attempts with real large-reply EOF, including production downloadTextFile. This is evidence coverage was preserved.
 4. Checkpointed and pushed both branches after milestones, verified ls-remote. Final PR diff versus2d802f61 is only two test files,29insertions/16deletions. No production/library changes. Required bld-build green from retained XML,73/73 first attempts, zero retry histories: https://github.com/CodexCoder21Organization/FiledropServiceServer/actions/runs/40354370493. Its initial job failed before compilation because kotlin.directory POM download refused connection; exact POM was verified HTTP200, then failed job rerun once. No failing test was blindly retried. Bounded build-watchman0.0.21 exitedGREEN; no watch remains running.
 5. Remote submission outage authorized the explicit local full-suite fallback: lockwait0 seconds,73/73 first attempts, zero retries. Child heap unchanged128MiB; JAVA_TOOL_OPTIONS=-Xmx512m bounded parent/compiler after an early compiler exit137. Child explicit-Xmx128m takes precedence.
 6. Final isolated production remote https://buildtest.kotlin.build/run?id=ecaed4ce passed first22.920s,16complete1,333,487byte replies,1755health replies,144storage calls during reads. Maximum https://buildtest.kotlin.build/run?id=77772917 passed first20.834s. Final separate range https://buildtest.kotlin.build/run?id=eaa0d260 queued15 min with zero attempts, then canceled; coordinator run.json verifiedCANCELED despite lost cancellation response. Its watcher was stopped by owned PID95073.
 7. Submitted full remote suite exactly once, https://buildtest.kotlin.build/run?id=540dc5bd. Queued30 min, then completedFAILED68 passed/5 failed/73 total. All3 primary scenarios failed first. Full first65/73;8 initial failures were each retriedtwice,89 attempt rows. Product accepts any successful attempt, so do not treat final last-attempt67 passes as the product final68.

 1. Full production attempts1/2 timeout in initial uploadTextFile before health workers start. Therefore churn does not explain those failures. Main waits on SandboxInvocationTask at SandboxedProxyGenerator.kt1585, nested storage invocation workers wait on PersistentRpcConnection.doSendRequest UrlResolver.kt33082; these are wait sites, not proven causes. Range first timeout is RUNNABLE classloading from RandomAccessFile.seek0/ZipFile into SJVMConfig.Builder.build142/SandboxedConnection.newOwnedSandbox2095. Max first waits on racefuture line224; later on216. Do not mistake a single sampled frame for the costly algorithm.
 2. First attempt process-tree CPU/runqueue-wait milliseconds: range9370/51126; max22830/39691; production13720/63672. First dump compiler CPU range2509.9, production3258.97, max5640.48. Remote worker policy intentionally runs4logical lanes on2vCPUs and CPU admission isOBSERVE; an admission warning estimated9005millicores on2000available. This alone is not an accepted cause or permission to change hardware/admission. Live worker snapshot4GBRAM,2727MBavailable,zero swap refutes contemporaneous memory exhaustion. No change to worker policy.
 3. Refuted/limited hypotheses: both resolver1306 and1337 perform one underlying source.read per pull, so short-pull existence alone does not establish multiplication. First primary ready-to-start gaps13ms/2ms/16ms refute deadline starting before readiness. Remote manager205 usesC2, local/GitHub207 usesC1/nativeSHA256; however local205 passes three targeted bodies5153/8807/11102ms(range/production/max). With exact same final fixtures but baseline dependencies1306/1429/snapshot27 under205, all 3pass6698/13247/15928ms. This does not support a dependency-only slowdown locally.
 4. Controlled follow-up used4 genuine targeted test bodies on2 assigned CPUs (no artificial load, no count/deadline changes). Manager205 all 4 first pass companion7384/range8211/production13318/max14360ms;207 all 4 first pass7008/7942/11540/12600ms. Known launcher optimization gives modest improvement, not a reliable reproducer of this failure. Temporary dependency build.kts restored; all 10 checkouts clean, zero stashes.
 5. PR description now states the incomplete mechanism and full remote failures. Live recheck OPEN/head157b908/bld-buildSUCCESS; informational remoteFAILURE. New attachment attempt to540dc5bd failed peer address-unreachable; correctHTTP/api/runs exceeded20s with0 bytes. Earlier/api/runs/
404 was a wrong route, excluded from outage evidence. Bounded SSH can still recover authoritative records. No waits/processes from our test runs remain.

No live code drift introduced by L154.

Evidence: authoritative full-run journal and final73rows remain on the coordinator at /root/buildtest-data/runs/540dc5bd/test-events.jsonl and test-results.json, with run.json and build.log. They contain every full-suite attempt and complete thread dumps; recovery commands below. GitHub required-run XML remains in its test-attempt-history artifact. The pushed failing guard and final test code reproduce the connection-count evidence from GitHub alone.

A local evidence archive /tmp/L154-evidence-20261026.tar.gz (1,261,478bytes, SHA256 dfbc62134ab6a3bff48e19bf33bec3b7de1b08fed1f531353762c092e0911b09) was assembled, but FiledropCli failed in createDrop before uploading: SandboxException: SJVM host-side RPC interrupted during method=createDrop ... host-side intrinsic handler did not complete. No share URL was returned. Do not claim this archive is remotely preserved. It includes the comparison XML/events, raw full-run records, all retry stacks, guard/negative-control XML, GitHub/local XML, benchmark XML, assertion audit and incremental findings. The essential facts and measured outcomes are all recorded in this body; central remote journals and pushed code are durable. Raw JFR deliberately omitted because it can include process environment; build outputs/caches and credentials omitted. No evidence/notes files were committed to repositories per owner's rule. Full local execution-sample exports remain local if this session filesystem survives; repeat profiling if they do not. Next steps

 1. Reverify PR/head/checks, remote access, branches and full540dc5bd records. Preserve every original assertion/iteration/deadline. Requiredgreen alone does not establish timeout resolution.
 2. Once buildtest submission/read access works, obtain a live profile of exactly the public path that remains stuck during production upload and SJVM startup, with per-operation timing and per-thread CPU/runqueue/I/O evidence. The prior full worker was612855057/IP164.90.159.161; it may now be deleted, so rediscover the new own run's worker and childPID. Profile only processes started by this work. Do not add artificial CPU load or calibrate a reproducer to a machine.
 3. Establish a reliable failing contract reproducer before another fix. If in resolver/protocol, report the exact source line/mechanism and stop per owner scope; do not edit those libraries. If filedrop test/product inefficiency, fix its cause preserving all work/budgets, validate locally, push milestone and ls-remote verify, then required remote checks described in original brief. The requested full suite has already run once; do not blindly rerun failedCI.
 4. Keep PR description/handoff honest and update each milestone. Do not merge/enqueue/deploy. Release any handoff claim when stopping; complete it only when original timeout mechanism and required validation are actually resolved.

Operational knowledge

Checkout fresh underworkspace; repository README has actual build/test commands. rg unavailable here; used grep/find. All test full suites remote except the explicit outage fallback. XML uses <tests><test name=... success=... time=...> and optional attempt-history, notJUnit testcase. FailedremoteCLI does not writeXML; raw coordinator test-events.jsonl/xml_results is the retained evidence, never call a submissionfailure a testfailure. CLI --attach is a one-shot read, not a wait. Its internal30 min wait can returnPENDING without canceling a still-running remote run, even with an external90min timeout. Never resubmit the suite just because attachment is pending.

Bounded retained-record fallback when fabric certificates absent and HTTP/P2P reads fail: timeout --signal=TERM --kill-after=5s 25 ssh -o BatchMode=yes -o ConnectTimeout=8 -p23 root@198.199.106.165 'cat /root/buildtest-data/runs/540dc5bd/test-events.jsonl' > /tmp/events.jsonl Other files same run directory:run.json,test-results.json(73 canonicalrows),build.log. Do not print entire events/output fields; they contain hundreds ofKB of thread dumps. Select name/attemptNumber/status/durationMs/processTreeCpuTimeMs/processTreeRunQueueWaitMs.

Local root cannot SSH workers directly, but coordinator key can while worker lives: timeout 30 ssh -o BatchMode=yes -o ConnectTimeout=8 -p23 root@198.199.106.165 "ssh -o BatchMode=yes -o ConnectTimeout=8 -o StrictHostKeyChecking=no -o UserKnownHostsFile=/dev/null root@<own-worker-IP> '<read-only command>'" Fabric preferred, but three localcertfiles were absent. No remote process kills/restarts/writes performed. Source records and data stable despite transient service API failures.

Required bounded monitor: timeout --signal=TERM --kill-after=15s 3600 coursier launch buildwatchman:build-watchman:0.0.21 -r https://kotlin.directory -- --repo CodexCoder21Organization/FiledropServiceServer --pr 39 No --to-merged. 2026-10-27 09:08 UTC - RUNNING handoff; W2 continuation finished, NEEDS_MERGE_THEN_CONTINUE. Original request: own the FileDrop timeout handoff, push the reviewed discovery correction into the existing runner PR, verify racing CI and mark ready for review.

The policy change aligns queued child runtime dependencies with the tested compiler policy. Owned loopback repositories keep the policy fixtures' timed bodies independent of external HTTPS. The reviewed HttpHandler correction keeps platform HTTP method types outside script discovery while preserving handler behavior and all assertions.

https://github.com/CodexCoder21Organization/BuildTestRunner/pull/163 is OPEN, ready for review, unmerged at e0af23d891a033a861a5aefbf2a2f3b151ba613b. Normal fast-forward push and remote SHA verified; immediate rebase made no changes. Accepted basic/delayed/retained first passes and red/green/revert evidence apply to identical source head; no extra local suite was launched. Required exact-head GitHub bld-build run https://github.com/CodexCoder21Organization/BuildTestRunner/actions/runs/40477890610 was IN_PROGRESS at the one-shot reading; no full-suite success claimed. Scripts 0.0.121, active racing workflow and main bld-build requirements all verified; no CI upgrade PR or ruleset action needed.

Delegated work at a glance: none. No owned test JVM, long watcher or timer remains. No unnecessary holds. No idle landing gates. Owner direction captured: latest ruling makes GitHub bld-build the full-suite gate; recorded in handoff, replacing draft/local-gate hold. No merge, publication or production action.

Next: orchestrator monitors/reviews/lands this PR; then immutable runner release with consumer-first verification, Embedded catalog adoption/publication, server pin, explicitly authorized coordinator deployment and NEW unchanged FileDrop validation remain. Handoff updated: https://www.handoff.wasmserver.com/handoffs/hf-2026-10-26-find-the-remaining-remote-timeout-mechanism-in-filedropserviceserver . Claim stays fable-W2-1027 per brief. Result JSON: W2-090105-own-result.json.

Lessons: verify the correction SHA before transferring accepted evidence; inspect effective check requirements and workflow commands separately; keep the release/adoption chain explicit rather than treating PR readiness as overall completion.
