The watch-build skill's Layer 3 host-check command uses 'tail -2 <test-events.jsonl> <build.log>'

Reported (UTC): 2026-07-14 07:12

The watch-build skill's Layer 3 host-check command uses 'tail -2 <test-events.jsonl> <build.log>' over SSH. On the ContainerNursery/buildtest host this failed exactly with 'tail: option used in invalid context -- 2', so the command produced stat metadata but no required frozen-content evidence. Impact: an operator following the documented WEDGE rule cannot verify content freshness and might incorrectly delete or preserve a remote build. Workaround: use portable 'tail -n 2 -- <file1> <file2>' (or tail each file separately). Durable fix: update /home/leslie/.codex/skills/watch-build/SKILL.md Layer 3 command and any published watch-build guidance to use 'tail -n 2 --'.

Status: STILL EXISTS. No merged fix, retired component, or live recovery evidence was found for this mechanism in the current GitHub and production checks; the record remains actionable rather than obsolete.

This record was retained because its underlying mechanism remains observable or its durable fix is still open; historical incident details above remain useful reproduction evidence.
