While running scripts/test.bash --test tests/testCoursierProgressingResolveIsNotAbortedByWholeFetchT
Reported (UTC): 2026-07-16 06:39
While running scripts/test.bash --test tests/testCoursierProgressingResolveIsNotAbortedByWholeFetchTimeout.kts in kompile-core, the child test correctly produced an AssertionError, but the parent TCP test runner then failed to deserialize the result with java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: community.kotlin.kompile.testrunner.bootstrap.SerializableFailure at ObjectInputStream.resolveClass and printed Unexpected error in TCP communication plus Failed to report exception to parent. This obscures the original failure, duplicates a long stack trace, and reports Test failed with exit code 1 instead of preserving the assertion normally. The run used the repository main-line testrunner dependencies and kompile-cli 0.0.65. The immediate workaround is to read the nested child stack trace, but the durable fix is to ensure the parent communication classpath includes the bootstrap protocol carrier version used by the child, or deserialize that carrier through the intended dependency loader.

Status: STILL EXISTS. No merged fix, retired component, or live recovery evidence was found for this mechanism in the current GitHub and production checks; the record remains actionable rather than obsolete.
This record was retained because its underlying mechanism remains observable or its durable fix is still open; historical incident details above remain useful reproduction evidence.
