On 2026-07-16, after successfully creating pull requests in kompile-core and build-kotlin-jvm with gh CLI, running gh pr edit against either PR to replace a reciprocal-link placeholder failed before updating the body. Exact error: GraphQL: Projects (classic) is being deprecated in favor of the new Projects experience, see: https://github.blog/changelog/2024-05-23-sunset-notice-projects-classic/. (repository.pullRequest.projectCards). The requested operation only edited the PR body and did not involve projects, so gh pr edit is unnecessarily querying the deprecated projectCards field and making an otherwise valid mutation unusable. Impact: automated PR body maintenance fails across repositories. Workaround used successfully: gh api with PATCH against repos/OWNER/REPO/pulls/NUMBER and a body field loaded from the prepared body file. Suggested durable fix: update gh CLI or the local wrapper so pr edit does not request projectCards, or make the supported PR-body edit helper use the REST pull-request endpoint.

Status: STILL EXISTS. No merged fix, retired component, or live recovery evidence was found for this mechanism in the current GitHub and production checks; the record remains actionable rather than obsolete.
This record was retained because its underlying mechanism remains observable or its durable fix is still open; historical incident details above remain useful reproduction evidence.
