Mission
The user asked to carry out fix1301r4: add the public memory regression guard the fresh review requested, prove the collecting regression red and streaming green on CLI 0.0.112 and 0.0.121, run three four-test first-attempt gates per pin, update the existing PR, and watch CI. The 75-minute task boundary leaves only CI verification pending.
Found and completed
- Public constructor allowances and synchronous rewrite callbacks support a real guard. The former default-window/no-public-seam conclusion was refuted. Test holds 24 runs fixed, configures 32,768 protected positions and 16 MiB tail allowance, seeds 65,537 compact valid rows, and commits 16 renewals while staged. a one-record threshold and explicit journal window metadata prevent retention of an unnecessary startup prefix without reducing the workload.
- Live heap is sampled after forced GC at positions 1, 4,000 through 32,000 within the first active rewrite. A 2 MiB bound was selected before measurements: two growable 256 KiB output buffers may each retain 512 KiB, plus 1 MiB fixed-state allowance. The test checks exact sampling positions, publication, one refresh, window reached, and first-rewrite node work. The writer is joined during cleanup.
- Equivalent collecting mutation retains rowIndex/change inputs until finish, then replays original streaming construction before sorting runs. First 112 attempt RED: 4,950,824 bytes growth,90553ms; first 121 RED: 4,951,976 bytes,90836ms. Bound 2,097,152 bytes. All six automatic attempts failed this memory assertion; no workload assertion failure. An earlier unmeasured startup OOM probe is explicitly not evidence. Both CLIs hardcode three attempts; successful gates must be first-attempt passes.
- Streaming restored. Both pins passed all three four-test batches on first attempts: 24/24 executions total. Guard112 durations 153956/117287/139624ms; 121 durations 94329/96200/128870ms; unchanged 240s timeout. Other tests: testProjectionStartupRefreshBoundsIndexReadsAndStagedRowPasses, projectionStartupCompactionUnderSustainedProductionScaleLoad, projectionChangeFeedReadRemainsAvailableDuringContinuousMaintenance. Successful CLI logs omit console samples, so numeric green samples are unavailable; all bound/position/work assertions passed.
- Independent test and adversarial review approved. Final source diff adds only tests/testProjectionStartupRefreshBoundsRetainedClassificationMemory.kts. Original 112 pins and streaming source preserved. Fresh fetch/rebase left 46c22281fb1ed3ca0f889f4abd1cc4bb8ca74519 unchanged; worktree clean. PR verified OPEN at expected old head, pushed force-with-lease, body patched using gh api-F body file and re-read identical. Review round 4 added and former open/no-heap-test note removed.
- Branch CI watcher 0.0.21 plain--pr started. Current snapshot state=OPEN, mergeStateStatus=BLOCKED, head=46c22281fb1ed3ca0f889f4abd1cc4bb8ca74519. Required bld-build has not appeared; four bld-test-shard checks in progress. Watcher also reports a non-dispatching kotlin-build-ci-test app, backed by mature queued/no-run base suites; it treats this as existing non-dispatch and does not re-request. Do not infer a test failure from pending state.
- Remote 112 backups are superseded by complete local gates. Six jobs failed before build due git absent, then archive checkout without.git. Two later jobs were cancelled at parent direction after a repository-ownership error before build. All eight are terminal and all helpers stopped. This produces no test verdict and leaves no test requirement pending. Remote workflow branches/logs are linked below. Future helper setup needs git installed before checkout, full history, explicit main fetch, and a correct ownership configuration for the job's own checkout; that last adjustment was not tested.

Verification notes, independent review, brief, slot wrapper and challenge drafts are preserved under handoff-notes/fix1301r4. Experimental history is separate from PR. Every local scripts/test.bash call used one of three mkdir build slots with bounded waits and EXIT release. The root local gates all finished; the local CI watcher will be stopped at the task boundary, while actual PR CI continues.
Challenge CLI was not invoked because it auto-enqueues/merges, forbidden by this brief; drafts retain automatic-retry and remote-helper findings. The canonical handoff README still contains a legacy git-PR merge section contradicting current service-only skill; this handoff uses the central service with no PR or merge.
Generated jars, dependency caches, and raw test-result files were deliberately omitted from source snapshots under the user's artifact policy. All measured outcomes, failure mechanism, reproducible source and reusable scripts are retained in notes; full remote setup logs are available through the Actions links. Local raw logs were never treated as portable references.
